Mustangs spike No. 7 Ottawa at tourney

PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's volleyball upset seventh-ranked  Ottawa University, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, 27-25, 15-13, at the Park  University tournament in Missouri Friday.

The Mustangs fell behind 2-1 after the first three sets, then  prevailed in the last two sets with a clutch performance.

Nikola Stoimenov collected 26 kills and three blocks for the Mustangs  against Ottawa. Andrew Colantone contributed 50 aces and nine digs.  Julian Armendano had 13 kills and eight digs.

Mount Mercy lost to fifth-ranked Park University, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23,  25-21, in its other match at the tournament Friday. The Mustangs won  the first set before falling short.

Stoimenov had 16 kills and three blocks against Park University.  Colantone dished out 32 assists. Armendano had 10 kills and 10 digs.

The Mustangs (2-3) have two more matches at the tournament on Saturday.
