The Mount Mercy baseball team split with Central Methodist in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader Saturday at the Plaster Athletic Complex.
Mount Mercy lost the first game, 14-1, but rebounded to take the nightcap, 6-5, and hand Central Methodist its first setback in the league.
The split left Mount Mercy at 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Central Methodist is 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the league.
Michael Barbato had two hits for the Mustangs in the 14-1 loss in the opener. Central Methodist hit five homers in the game, including two by Sergio Macias who went 3-for-4 with seven RBIs.
Mount Mercy built a 6-2 lead in the second game and withstood a three-run rally by Central Methodist in the sixth inning for the 6-5 victory. Jake Faur belted a solo homer for the Mustangs and Nick Sueppel drove in two runs. Tanner Lohaus allowed two runs in 4.1 innings for the victory. Skylar Freese got the final two outs in the seventh inning for a save.
