LINN-MAR BOYS WIN 4A STATE TITLE -- Linn-Mar did not win a single event Saturday, but the Lions' depth powered them to the Class 4A state track title at Des Moines ... Josh Evans was second in the 1600 and third in the 800 ... Perrion Scott was second in the 200 and third in the 100 ... The Lions also were third in the 4x100 relay ..... Jefferson senior Timauntay Jones won the 800 meters ... Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks won the girls 1500 and was second in the 800 meters ... Marion girls face Assumption for state berth

The Marion Indians need one more victory to reach the Class 3A girls state basketball tournament, but they've drawn a tough opponent in the regional finals Tuesday night.

Marion (15-8) will face No. 4 Davenport Assumption (21-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in DeWitt.

The Indians advanced to the regional finals with a 62-56 conquest of Center Point-Urbana in a battle of Wamac Confernce foes at Marion Saturday night.

Center Point-Urbana (15-8) swept the season series from Marion, but the Indians used a balanced attack to collect the big victory. Dani Peyton scored 15 points, Beth Knapp had 13 and Michalyn Mohr tossed in 11 points for the winners.

Kennedy Salow led Center Point-Urbana with 16 points.

Center Point-Urbana committed 30 fouls in the 32-minute game and four of its players fouled out. Marion hit 26 of 39 free throws, compared to 14 of 21 for Center Point-Urbana.

CENTER POINT-URBANA (56): P. Wilkin 0 0-3 0, M. Wilkin 1 4-4 7, Stone 3 0-0 6, Twedt 1 0-0 2, Gauley 2 0-0 6, Wooldridge 2 0-0 5, Salow 3 10-13 16, Wilhelmi 7 0-1 14. Totals 19 14-21 56.

MARION (62): Scott 3 1-2 7, Kramer 1 0-0 2, Knapp 2 7-11 13, Peyton 3 8-9 15, Banes 2 1-4 6, Jones 0 2-2 2, Perkins 1 2-2 4, Mohr 3 5-9 11. Totals 16 26-39 62.
