WATERLOO -- After Prairie and Waterloo West had each taken 10 penalty kicks in a shootout, one team finally blinked Wednesday night.

Kory Boebel's goal on the 11th penalty kick proved to be the game winner and the Prairie boys stunned No. 12 West, 3-2, Wednesday night in a Class 3A substate semifinal.

Prairie (11-8) advances to Saturday's noon substate final against No. 6 Ames. The Little Cyclones beat Marshalltown, 1-0, Wednesday.

Spencer Gaddis scored both of Prairie's goals in regulation. Assists were by Santiago Ortiz and Slater Pulkab.
