IOWA CITY - The Linn-Mar Lions saved their best for last Monday night and split their Mississippi Valley Conference double at No. 3 Iowa City West.

Linn-Mar lost the first game, 2-1, and trailed the nightcap 5-3 entering the top of the seventh inning, just three outs away from getting swept before good things happened.

By the time the dust cleared, the Lions had scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to snatch a 9-5 victory.

Michael Redmond drove in three runs for Linn-Mar (4-2, 6-6) in the nightcap. Kevin Bogert and Austin Banks had two hits. Nate Greve picked up the victory by pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief, getting all five outs on strikeouts.

The first game was a pitchers' duel between Jacob Stolley for Linn-Mar and Kellen Yoder for Iowa City West. Stolley struck out 10 batters in six innings and allowed only four hits, while Yoder fanned eight batters in seven innings and gave up four hits.

Stickney had two hits for the Lions in the opener.
