Schebler helps Kershaw with 3rd HR

Cedar Rapids Prairie grad Scott Schebler helped Clayton Kershaw win a ballgame for the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night.

Schebler hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to break open a tight 2-1 game and give the Dodgers a 4-1 victory over Colorado.

Schebler, 24, has belted three home runs since being promoted to the Dodgers in September. He is hitting .261 with four RBIs, five runs and two stolen bases.

Schebler played left field and hit eighth in the lineup Monday night. He went 1-for-3 with a walk in addition to his two-run homer.

The Dodgers picked Schebler in the 26th round of the 2010 draft from DMACC. The Dodgers are racing to the playoffs with an 83-60 record and Schebler is making a strong bid to make their 25-man playoff roster.

Schebler socks another HR for Dodgers

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Scott Schebler led off the top of the first inning with a home run on the first pitch of the game Wednesday night in the Los Angeles Dodgers's 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Schebler, a Cedar Rapids Prairie grad, was promoted to the Dodgers from Triple-A this month when Major League teams were allowed to expand their rosters to 40 active players. It's been much more than a token promotion for Schebler, who has become an important player for the Dodgers as they move closer to clinching their division title.

Schebler has belted two home runs since his promotion and is batting .357 (5-for-14) this season after going 1-for-4 Wednesday. He was the starting left fielder in Wednesday's game.

David Parry named starter by Colts

Linn-Mar grad David Parry has fooled the experts again.

The Indianapolis Colts have named Parry their starting defensive tackle heading into the 2015 season after selecting him in the fifth round of this year's draft.

Parry was considered too small to play major college football coming out of high school and did not get scholarship offers from Iowa or Iowa State. He began his college career at Stanford as a walk-on and became a major contributor for the Pac-10 power on the defensive line.

Some football experts thought Parry was too short at 6-foot-2 to be a defensive lineman in the NFL, but now he's cracked the starting lineup as a rookie and ready to prove the experts wrong again.
