Kaness, Kluth top all-MVC boys bowling

Kyle Kaness of Washington and Austin Kluth of Jefferson have been named the Athletes of the Year on the 2014 Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling team, as selected by the MVC coaches.

Kaness was named the Athlete of the Year in the Valley Division and Kluth was honored as the Athlete of the Year in the Mississippi Division.

Caleb Miller of Xavier, Seth Tegtmeier of Linn-Mar and Bryan Cline of Washington joined Kaness on the Valley Division first team. Victor Baccam of Jefferson joined Kluth on the Mississippi Division first team.

Blood tops MVC girls bowling squad

Rylee Blood of Prairie has been named the Valley Division co-Athlete of the Year on the 2014 Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling squad, as selected by MVC coaches.

Blood shared the award with Jordan Newman of Waterloo West.

Brooke McMorran of Linn-Mar and Keely Pernicka of Washington joined Blood on the Valley Division first team. Rylea Bennett and Savannah Fowler of Jefferson were named to the first team in the Mississippi Division.

Franklin leads Valley Division all-stars

Dani Franklin of Cedar Rapids Washington has been selected as the Athlete of the Year in the Valley Division of the Mississippi Valley Conference in girls basketball.

Haley Lorenzen of Iowa City High was named the Athlete of the Year in the Mississippi Division.

Franklin, Katie Sommer of Linn-Mar, Aleena Hobbs of Washington, Blaire Thomas of Waterloo West and Haley Puk of Waterloo West were unanimous first-team choices in the Valley Division. They were joined on the top squad by Cyerra Hutchins of Prairie, Hayley Deutmeyer of Xavier and Madison Wood of Cedar Falls.

Amanda Ollinger of Jefferson, Morgan Martin of Kennedy, Kiera Washpun of Iowa City High, Mikaela Morgan of Iowa City West and Lorenzen were unanimous picks in the Mississippi Division.

Drake, Jenks top all-MVC swim

Kelsey Drake of Jefferson and Jennifer Jenks of Linn-Mar have earned a pair of first-team berths on the Mississippi Valley Conference swimming team, the league announced Wednesday.

Drake made first team all-conference in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Jenks made first team in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Alyssa Deuso (diving), Samantha Fitzgerald (100 butterfly) and Stephanie Jenks (500 freestyle) were named first team all-conference from Linn-Mar.
