Kirkwood baseball knocks off Parkland

The Kirkwood baseball team exploded for nine runs in the second inning  Wednesday and topped Parkland, 11-5, in a non-conference game at  Kirkwood.

Levi Usher, Taylor Jackson, Zion Pettigrew and Kal Youngquist had two  RBIs for the Eagles (17-10). Pettigrew, Youngquist and Corey Graham  had two hits. Usher, Jackson and Joel Thompson scored twice.

Blake Mann pitched three spotless innings in relief for the victory.  He retired nine straight batters and had four strikeouts.

KCC baseball team drops twinbill

The Kirkwood baseball team spent a long, frustrating day at the  ballpark Monday.

Iowa Lakes swept the Eagles, 4-1 and 12-2 in five innings, in an ICCAC  doubleheader at Kirkwood.

The twin defeats left Kirkwood at 16-10 overall and 4-4 in the league.  Iowa Lakes raised its marks to 11-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Kirkwood got only four hits in the 4-1 loss in the opener. The Eagles  loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but managed only a  single run on an infield error.

Kirkwood managed only three hits in the 12-2 loss in the nightcap and  got swept off its own field in five innings.

Bennett shines as Eagles sink Lakers

The Kirkwood baseball team swept Iowa Lakes, 5-2 and 10-1, in an ICCAC conference doubleheader at Kirkwood Sunday.

Jackson Bennett pitched six shutout innings in the 5-2 victory before being touched for two runs in the seventh. He allowed only two hits. Cameron Cowan got the final out to collect a save.

Zion Pettigrew belted a home run and drove in two runs in the opener. Levi Usher had two RBIs and two stolen bases. Kirkwood scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a scoreless game.

Kal Youngquist went 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the 10-1 verdict in the nightcap. Usher, Pettigrew, Corey Graham and Gave Lux had two hits. Taylor Jackson scored three times. Usher and Lux scored twice. Pettigrew had three RBIs.

Cameron Leff tossed five strong innings for the victory in Game 2, allowing three hits and one run with seven strikeouts. Blake Mann pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Usher helps Kirkwood sweep Marshalltown

Levi Usher went 5-for-8 Wednesday afternoon to help the Kirkwood  Eagles sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Marshalltown, 13-3 and  11-10, at the Kirkwood field.

The twin-killing lifted the Eagles to 14-8 for the campaign.

Zion Pettigrew continued his hot hitting for Kirkwood by going 3-for-4  with a home run and three RBIs in the 13-3 victory, which ended in the  bottom of the sixth by the mercy rule when the Eagles scored seven runs.

Usher, Taylor Jackson and Brennan Brister had two hits in Game 1.  Usher, Jackson, Pettigrew and Kal Youngquist scored twice. Jackson,  Brister and Jackson Bennett had two RBIs.

Lecari Elion allowed three runs in five innings in the opener for the victory.

Pettigrew, Lawler shine for Eagles

FORT DODGE - Zion Pettigrew and Carter Lawler were the big stars for  the Kirkwood baseball team Tuesday.

Pettigrew went 6-for-8 and belted two homers as the Eagles split an  ICCAC Conference doubleheader at Fort Dodge.

Pettigrew was 3-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs as Kirkwood won  the first game, 10-0. Lawler tossed a four-hit shutout with 10  strikeouts and no walks in the victory.

Gabe Lux went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs in the opener.

Iowa Central rebounded with a 10-3 triumph in the second game.  Pettigrew was 3-for-5 in Game 2. Kal Youngquist went 2-for-3 with a  double and two RBIs.
