'Game on 380 Sports' will serve area kids

Doug Yanecek, Steve Wise and Todd Ambrosy have devoted a good portion of their lives to youth sports activities as coaches, officials and program directors in the Metro area. Now they have combined their skills into a new organization called "Game on 380 Sports" that will carry their passions even further.

"Game on 380 Sports" has been created to help youth teams and coaches host events and keep prices affordable. They also plan to stage their own events and will be involved with basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball.

They plan to charge a modest fee for their services, but plan to keep costs as low as possible and help groups use events as fundraisers.

"None of us are doing this for a full-time job," Yanecek said Tuesday. "None of us are doing it to be millionaires or make it our living.

"Our motivation is to offer some events that have not been been available to kids around here."

Johnson's win helps US retain Cup

INCHEON CITY, South Korea - Zach Johnson of Cedar Rapids won his singles match Sunday to cap a brilliant tournament as the United States won its sixth straight Presidents Cup over the International team.

The U.S. team clinched a 15 1/2-14 1/2 victory when Bill Haas, son of U.S. captain Jay Haas, earned a 2-up victory over Sangmoon Bae in the final match.

Johnson beat world No. 2-ranked Jason Day, 3-and-2, after having been 5-up with 11 holes to play. Johnson completed the Presidents Cup with a 3-0-1 record, including two wins and a tie while playing with Phil Mickelson.

This is the fourth time Johnson has been a member of a winning Presidents Cup team. He also was on the 2007, 2009 and 2013 teams and now has a 10-6-1 record in the event.

Johnson, a 1994 Regis High School graduate, completed one of his best seasons as a PGA Tour player. He won the British Open for his 12th career victory, had 10 Top 10 finishes, was sixth in FedEx Cup standings, earned a career-high $4.8 million and is No. 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Johnson remains unbeaten for U.S.

INCHEON CITY, South Korea - Zach Johnson of Cedar Rapids remained undefeated after four sessions of the Presidents Cup at Jack Nicklaus Golf Course.

Johnson teamed with Phil Mickelson for the third time and the duo defeated Adam Scott and Anirban Lahiri 3-and-2 in four-ball (best ball) play Saturday. Johnson and Mickelson sat out the third session, then improved to 2-0-1 in the competition.

Johnson and Mickelson both birdied the par-5 15th hole and pars at the 16th closed out the match.

The United States carries a 9 1/2-8 1/2 lead going into Sunday's singles session. All 12 players on each side will compete.

Johnson, ranked No. 10 in the world, will play No. 2 Jason Day at 9:03 p.m. (Iowa time) on Saturday. Day appeared in Johnson's charity tournament this summer at Elmcrest Country Club and won five tournaments in 2015, including the PGA Championship. Johnson won the British Open.

Johnson, Mickelson halve Cup match

The American pair of Zach Johnson and Phil Mickelson halved their match in Session 2 of the Presidents Cup golf competition after a bizarre ruling against Mickelson early in the round.

Playing the seventh hole Friday at the Jack Nicklaus Course in Incheon City, South Korea, Mickelson violated the "one-ball'' condition by putting into a play a different brand of ball. Rules stipulate players must play the entire round with the same brand and type (compression) of ball. Mickelson admitted he put a firmer ball in play to try and gain distance.

In addition, a rules official told Mickelson to pick up his ball on the seventh when in actuality he could have continued to play on. Johnson lost the hole to the team of Jason Day and Adam Scott and an additional penalty against Mickelson followed. The result was the Americans went from all square to 2-down in one hole.

Johnson birdied 18 with a short putt. Day followed with a 7-foot birdie to halve the match. The United States team holds a 5 1/2-4 1/2 lead going into Saturday's third and fourth sessions. Johnson and Mickelson were not scheduled to play the third session.

Johnson, a Cedar Rapids Regis product, teamed with Mickelson in the first session Thursday for a 2-up victory.

The American duo has drawn plenty of comment after they created an unusual way to celebrate their successes. Instead of fist bumps or high gives, Johnson and Mickelson merely face one another, shake hands and give a nod of their heads.

The Presidents Cup concludes Sunday with 12 singles matches.
