Schebler gets into game with L.A.

Cedar Rapids Prairie grad Scott Schebler went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night in their 10-7 loss to San Diego.

Schebler was promoted from Triple-A to the Dodgers on Thursday.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Los Angeles, OF, MLB, National League: Schebler has appeared in two games for the Dodgers this season and is batting .250 (1-for-4).

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 3-for-4 Thursday with a double, two RBIs and two runs in a 9-5 victory over Charlotte. He played right field and hit ninth in the lineup. Christensen is batting .259 with two homers and 39 RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Bowie, P, Double-A, Eastern League (Orioles): Jon Keller did not pitch Thursday in a 6-3 victory over Altoona. He is 0-0 with a 4.19 ERA in Double-A.

MITCH KELLER (CR Xavier), Bristol, P, Rookie, Appalachian League (Pirates): Bristol has finished the season. Mitch Keller went 0-3 with a 5.49 ERA in limited action this year after recovering from an arm injury.

Schebler promoted to Dodgers again

Scott Schebler is back in the big leagues.

Schebler, a Cedar Rapids Prairie grad, has been summoned to the Major Leagues by the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second time this season. He appeared in one game earlier this year and got a base hit in his first at-bat.

Schebler was hitting .241 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs with the Oklahoma City Dodgers in Triple-A. He can play all three outfield positions and has good speed.

Major League teams can expand their normal 25-man rosters in September.

Stokes named WNBA Rookie of Month

Kiah Stokes has been honored as the WNBA Rookie of the Month for August, the league announced Tuesday.

Stokes, a Linn-Mar graduate, led all WNBA rookies in August in rebounds (8.3), field goal percentage (56.4) and blocked shots (1.5). She ranked second in minutes played (27.8), third in free throws (83.3) and fifth in points (7.2).

Stokes, a 6-foot-3 center from UConn, was picked 11th in the WNBA draft this year by the New York Liberty.

She had a double-double against Chicago on Aug. 11 with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She had another double-double against Connecticut on Aug. 29 with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Liberty have the best record in the WNBA at 20-8.

Metro Players in Pro Baseball

The Metro Sports Report provides regular updates on all the Metro graduates in pro baseball. Here is the report through Sunday, Sept 6.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Dodgers, OF, National League: Schebler got into Sunday's game against San Diego as a defensive replacement in left field but did have any at-bats. He has played in four games this season and is batting .333 (3-for-9) with a home run and two stolen bases.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 0-for-2 Sunday in a 5-1 loss to Charlotte. He played right field and hit sixth in the lineup. Christensen is batting .257 with two homers and 39 RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Bowie, P, Double-A, Eastern League (Orioles): Jon Keller did not pitch Sunday. He has a 0-0 record and 4.50 ERA.

MITCH KELLER (CR Xavier), Bristol, P, Rookie, Appalachian League (Pirates): Bristol has finished the season. Mitch Keller went 0-3 with a 5.49 ERA this season. He pitched 19.2 innings in six games.

Metro Players in Pro Baseball

The Metro Sports Report provides regular updates on all the Metro graduates in pro baseball. Here is the report through Thursday, Aug. 27.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Oklahoma City, OF, Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (Dodgers): Schebler went 1-for-4 Thursday with a double, RBI, walk and run scored in a 9-7 victory over El Paso. He played center field and hit sixth in the lineup. Schebler is batting .248 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 1-for-3 Thursday in a 3-2 victory over Bradenton. He played right field and hit eighth in the lineup. Christensen is batting .247 with two homers and 34 RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Bowie, P, Double-A, Eastern League (Orioles): Jon Keller pitched two strong innings Thursday in an 8-3 loss to Reading. He allowed one hit and no runs, with one strikeout and one walk. He has an 0-0 record and 4.91 ERA in Double-A.

MITCH KELLER (CR Xavier), Bristol, P, Rookie, Appalachian League (Pirates): Mitch Keller did not pitch Thursday. He is 0-3 with a 6.19 ERA.
