Hummell leads Jeff swimmers in CF

CEDAR FALLS - Paul Hummell placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke for the Jefferson J-Hawks Saturday at the Marcussen Invitational in Cedar Falls.

Dowling Catholic captured all 11 events and won the championship by a whopping margin with 630 points. Jefferson finished fourth out of six teams with 278 points.

Baker, Allen win titles for J-Hawks

WEST DES MOINES - Brenden Baker and Josh Allen won championships Saturday for the Jefferson J-Hawks at the West Des Moines Valley-Johnston wrestling tournament.

Baker collected three straight pins at 106 pounds and stuck Alec Ksiazek of Johnston in 5:37 in the finals. Allen defeated Nick Tank of Winterset, 5-1, in the finals at 195 pounds.

Jefferson finished second out of 12 teams in the tournament. Waverly-Shell Rock, ranked No.3 in Class 3A, won the title with 237 points. The J-Hawks were next with 198.5.

Sommer twins lead Lions by J-Hawks

For the Linn-Mar girls, Friday night was all about redemption.

They admittedly played poorly Tuesday in a 33-point loss at Kennedy and weren't about to let it happen again at home against Jefferson.

“We wanted to redeem ourselves,” said senior guard Kristie Sommer, who led the Lions with 21 points in a 65-49 victory over the J-Hawks.

“This is our house,” added twin sister Katie Sommer, who chipped in with 20 points. “We don't like to lose here.”

Linn-Mar belts Jeff as Olson sits

Linn-Mar guard Jordan Bohannon was disappointed Friday night when he came out for warmups and learned that Jacob Olson would not be playing for Jefferson due to a sprained ankle.

The J-Hawks were disappointed, too.

Bohannon popped in a smooth 20 points and the Lions waltzed past the J-Hawks, 61-33, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at the Jefferson gym.

J-Hawks strong-arm Warriors on the lanes

Austin Kluth, Hunter Sturtz and Victor Baccam all shot series in the 460s to power Jefferson past Washington, 3216-2636, Friday in boys bowling at May City Bowl.

Kluth had high game for the J-Hawks with a 267 and also had high series of 469. Sturtz had a 466 and Baccam a 465 series.

Tyler Fowler and Christian Hindt also cleared the 400 barrier for Jefferson.

Kyle Kaness shot a 267 high game for Washington. He also had a 438 series.

Bennett fires J-Hawks past Warriors

Rylea Bennett had the line for Jefferson Friday afternoon rolling games of 204 and 234 for a 438 series that carried the J-Hawks past Washington, 2459-2421, in girls bowling at May City.

Savannah Fowler shot a consistent 372 series, with games of 187 and 185, for the J-Hawks.

Keely Pernicka led Washington with a 373 series. She also had high game for the Warriors of 196.

Warriors swim past J-Hawks, 105-62

Jefferson got Washington's attention by claiming first and second in the first event of Thursday's dual meet at the J-Hawk pool.

And the Warriors came roaring back.

Jared Thorson and Nick Saulnier were quadruple winners, and Cameron Kelley was a triple winner in leading Washington to a 105-62 win.

J-Hawks stick Warriors, Tigers on mat

Jefferson flattened Washington and Cedar Falls on the wrestling mat Thursday night at Jefferson.

The J-Hawks stuck Washington, 63-7, winning seven matches by forfeit. Dalton Kuehl, Brenden Baker and Luke Sedlacek had pins for Jefferson.

The J-Hawks pinned Cedar Falls, 53-21.

No.7 Wahlert downs J-Hawks, 75-56

DUBUQUE - Cordell Pemsl and Jared Walker combined for 47 points Tuesday night as Dubuque Wahlert slapped Jefferson, 75-56, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Dubuque.

Pemsl netted 25 points and Walker had 22 for Wahlert (2-1, 1-0). The Golden Eagles are ranked No.7 in Class 3A.

Tyler Konigsmark tossed in 21 points for Jefferson (1-2, 0-1). Jacob Olson scored 13 points.

Ollinger paces J-Hawks by Wahlert

Amanda Ollinger scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds Tuesday as Jefferson clipped Dubuque Wahlert, 65-58, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Jefferson.

Ollinger played a strong all-around game and also contributed four assists, four blocks and three steals.

Maddy Blietz hit three 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the J-Hawks (3-3, 2-1). Kennedy Dighton had 11 points and seven rebounds.
