Bertsch tames Ellis Park with 73

Xavier High School senior Maddie Bertsch fired a 1-over-par 73 to claim medalist honors at the Kennedy Invitational Monday at Ellis Park Golf Course.

Grace Winker of Xavier was the runner-up with an 81 as the Saints won the team championship by three strokes ahead of Linn-Mar, 344-347. Kennedy and Prairie tied for sixth in the eight-team field at 401.

Lauren Coughlin shot a 10-over 82 for Linn-Mar and Teresa Lopez Moreno finished with an 83 for the Lions.

Cougars blank Jeff in regional tennis

The Kennedy Cougars defeated Jefferson, 5-0, in the opening round of the Class 2A regional girls tennis tournament Saturday morning at the Kennedy courts.

The Cougars will host Washington in the regional quarterfinals May 24.

Jessica Pedersen, Evann Martin, Lauren Gifford, Gabby Olejniczak and Michelle Becker won their matches for Kennedy.

No.6 Cougars boot North Scott

ELDRIDGE - Killian Magee scored two goals and collected an assist Saturday as sixth-ranked Kennedy blanked North Scott, 7-0, in a boys soccer match in Eldridge.

Mark Schulz, Andrew Sheeley, Tanner Stewart, JJ Reinhart and Skyler Showalter also scored for the Cougars.

Reid Botkin and Sheeley picked up two assists in the victory. Sameeullah Jung, Nikolas Newcamp, Nick Waterhouse, Nate Waterhouse, Stewart and Nick Scharf also had assists.

Kennedy raised its record to 11-4 overall.

Kennedy boys share track title

DUBUQUE - The Kennedy Cougars tied Iowa City West for first place at the Class 4A boys state track qualifier in Dubuque Thursday.

The Cougars and Trojans both finished with 107 points in the incredibly tight standings. Prairie placed third with 105.5 points and Dubuque Senior was fourth at 104.

Derek Jacobus (long jump), Willie Rhoads (high jump) and Marcus Perkins (400 hurdles) won titles for Kennedy. The Cougars also claimed the shuttle hurdle relay in a swift 57.42 seconds and won the 4x200 relay.

Tysen VanDraska captured the 800 meter run for Prairie. The Washington Warriors won the 4x100 relay.

The Washington girls won three events at the coed meet. Amarri Waller claimed the 100 meter dash. The Warriors also won the distance medley and 4x100 relay.

Kenzie Soeken of Prairie won the high jump.

Kennedy girls blank Rams, 4-0

Four different players scored goals Wednesday night as the Kennedy Cougars blanked Dubuque Senior, 4-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

Kaela Dickerman, Sydney Hayden, Marcie Christianson and Jordan Holmes tallied for Kennedy.

Morgan Petsche collected two assists for the Cougars.

   

Cougars boot Jeff with late goals

Reid Botkin and Mark Schulz scored in the final five minutes Tuesday night to give No. 6 Kennedy a 2-0 victory over Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

The Cougars dominated play, but could not find the net until near the end of the game.

Kennedy raised its records to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in the MVC.

 

Pedersen, Martin win for Kennedy

DUBUQUE - Jessica Pedersen and Evann Martin won their singles matches Tuesday for the Kennedy Cougars in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet against Dubuque Senior in Dubuque.

Dubuque Senior won the meet, 6-3.

Pedersen defeated Ellena Wolfe, 10-3, at No. 1 singles. Martin tripped Madeline George, 10-2, at No. 2 singles.

Pedersen and Wolfe combined for a 10-4 verdict at No. 1 doubles.

Kaela Dickerman and Sydney Hayden scored two goals apiece Tuesday night as Kennedy blanked Jefferson, 5-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

The Cougars led, 4-0, at halftime.

Marcie Christianson also scored for Kennedy. Annie Feltes and Alyssa Drewelow had two assists.

 

 

Kennedy boys downed by Cedar Falls

Corey Duncan and Michael Abramson won their singles matches for the Kennedy Cougars Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet against Cedar Falls at Kennedy.

Cedar Falls won the meet, 7-2.

Duncan prevailed at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1, and Abramson won at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-0.

Lions now 3rd in boys soccer poll

The Linn-Mar Lions have climbed one spot to No. 3 in the Class 3A boys soccer rankings, the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Six Metro teams are ranked again this week.

Washington is ranked No. 5, Kennedy is No.6 and Prairie is No. 14 in the Class 3A poll. Xavier is ranked No.4 and Marion is ranked No. 13 in Class 2A.

Iowa City West is ranked No .1 in Class 3A and Norwalk is No. 1 in Class 2A.
