Lions now 3rd in boys soccer poll

The Linn-Mar Lions have climbed one spot to No. 3 in the Class 3A boys soccer rankings, the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Six Metro teams are ranked again this week.

Washington is ranked No. 5, Kennedy is No.6 and Prairie is No. 14 in the Class 3A poll. Xavier is ranked No.4 and Marion is ranked No. 13 in Class 2A.

Iowa City West is ranked No .1 in Class 3A and Norwalk is No. 1 in Class 2A.

Cougars, J-Hawks struggle at MVC golf

WATERLOO - The Kennedy Cougars and Jefferson J-Hawks struggled at the MVC Mississippi Division girls golf tournament at Gates Park in Waterloo Monday.

Nobody from either team cracked 100 at the par-72 layout.

Emily Moore led Kennedy to a fifth-place finish in the team standings with a 102. Regan Grekoff led Jefferson to a sixth-place showing in the team standings with a 108.

Tierney Dalsing of Hempstead shot an 11-over 83 to claim medalist honors and lead Hempstead to first place.

No. 6 Cougars denied by No. 1 Trojans

There was another classic boys soccer battle at Kennedy High School Friday night between two of the top teams in the state between No.1 Iowa City West and the sixth-ranked Cougars.

Iowa City West scored on a free kick from 20 yards with two minutes left in the first overtime for a 1-0 victory.

Kennedy is now 8-4 overall and 5-4 in the rugged Mississippi Valley Conference.

   

No. 3 IC West tops Kennedy in OT

IOWA CITY - The Kennedy and Iowa City West girls soccer teams battled for 80 minutes Friday night in Iowa City without either team able to score a goal.

The defensive battled ended in overtime with No. 3 Iowa City West posting a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jeff girls win 6 events at MVC meet

WATERLOO - The Jefferson girls track team captured six events at the MVC Mississippi Division meet in Waterloo Thursday.

Jasmine Blue blazed to victory in the 100 meter dash (12.87) and Madison Ranschau claimed the 100 hurdles (15.87).

The J-Hawks won the shuttle hurdle relay with Abbie Ranschau, Sam Kitterman, Ellie Trosky and Madison Ranschau clocked in 1:06.09. Abbie Ranschau, Blue, Morgan Meese and Lucy Schneekloth took the 4x200 relay in 1:44.92.

Madison Ranschau, Schneekloth, Abbie Ranschau and Blue captured the sprint medley in 1:52.14. Schneekloth, Abbie Ranschau, Meese and Blue won the 4x100 relay in 49.43 seconds.

Alyssa Averhoff of Kennedy won the 3000 meter run in 10:57.31.

Iowa City High won the meet with 166 points. Jefferson finished third (89) and Kennedy was fourth (69).

 

 

 

 

   

Kennedy, Jeff boys win 5 events

DUBUQUE - The Kennedy Cougars and Jefferson J-Hawks came home from Dubuque Thursday with five gold medals from the MVC Mississippi Division boys track meet.

Kennedy claimed three victories with Willie Rhoads in the high jump (6-foot-6), Derek Jacobus in the long jump (21 feet, 11.75 inches) and Drew Heitland in the shot put (50 feet, 11.75 inches).

Jefferson won two events. Nate Karlan claimed the 200 meter dash (22.10 seconds) and joined Jacob Beaton, Dan Larson and Dylan Chittick on the victorious 4x200 relay (1:29.50).

The Cougars got second-place showings from Mark Schulz (800), Shaun Beyer (high jump), the 4x100 relay, the 4x200 relay and the shuttle hurdle relay. Kennedy got third-place finishes from Famiek Cook (100), Marcus Perkins (400 hurdles) and Dalles Jacobus (discus).

Warriors net win against Cougars

Jackson Hoyt defeated Quinn Jamrock at No. 1 singles Thursday, 6-0, 6-2, as Washington clipped Kennedy 7-1 in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Kennedy.

Ian Schwieger, Parker Muller, Oliver Hammond, Dane Van Antwerp and Ian McElree also won their singles matches for the Warriors.

No.7 Kennedy girls win 19-0

The Kennedy girls soccer team tried everything it could for the sake of good sportsmanship against Waterloo East Wednesday, but even that did not help a whole lot.

The Cougars deliberately played shorthanded, removing two players from the field with 16 minutes left in the game, and they placed restrictions on the remaining players.

Kennedy won the Mississippi Valley Conference game, 19-0, after scoring all 19 of its goals in the first half.

Kaela Dickerman, Alyssa Drewelow and Sydney Hayden scored three goals apiece. Kasey Dekko and Annie Feltes scored twice. Marcie Christianson, Melette Devore, Emily Feltes, Anna Frerichs, Alex Paustian and Morgan Petsche scored once apiece.

 

6 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

Six boys soccer teams from the Metro area are ranked again this week by the IAHSSCA, but the exact spots have changed a little bit.

Four Metro teams are ranked in Class 3A with Linn-Mar No. 4, Washington No. 5, Kennedy No. 6 and Prairie No. 13.

Two Metro teams are ranked in Class 2A with Xavier No.4 and Marion No.13.

Pedersen wins No.1 singles for Cougar

Jessica Pedersen won her match at No.1 singles for the Kennedy Cougars Monday in a 7-2 loss to Dubuque Wahlert in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Kennedy.

Pedersen defeated Courtney Schneider, 10-6.

Hanna Krivit and Lauren Gifford captured their match at No.2 doubles for Kennedy.
