Uhlir nets 30 as Lions top Cougars

Linn-Mar High School has featured some outstanding 3-point shooters in recent years with Jason Bohannon and Marcus Paige topping the list.

Nic Uhlir is making a serious bid to join them.

Uhlir popped in a career-best seven 3-pointers Tuesday night and poured in 30 points as the Lions clipped No.10 Kennedy, 70-64, in a Mississippi Valley Conference battle at Linn-Mar.

Smith rolls 480 for Kennedy keglers

WATERLOO - Aaron Smith bowled a fine two-game series of 480 Tuesday for Kennedy, but it wasn't enough to topple the strong team from Waterloo West.

The Wahawks won the Mississippi Valley Conference meet, 3300-2882, behind a 490 series by Cameron Walker at Maple Lanes in Waterloo.

Kennedy girls bowled over by Waterloo West

WATERLOO - The Kennedy girls rolled their best score of the season, but it was no match for a red-hot Waterloo West outfit Tuesday at Maple Lanes.

West's Jordan Newman rolled a perfect 300 game and a 536 series to spark the Wahawks to a 3326-2614 win over Kennedy in girls bowling.

Kennedy's Laura Fischer shot a 209 high game and her 398 was high series for the Cougars.

Xavier wrestlers flatten Kennedy, 62-15

The Xavier Saints won 11 of 14 matches Monday night and defeated Kennedy, 62-15, in a Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet at Kennedy.

The Cougars forfeited five weights and the Saints forfeited two matches, so there were only seven actual bouts in the meet.

Both teams lost to Cedar Falls in the double-dual.

Cougars slip one spot to No.10

The Kennedy Cougars (12-3) fell one notch to No.10 in the Class 4A boys basketball rankings Monday by the Associated Press after losing a game to Iowa City West last week.

Dubuque Senior and Iowa City West, two clubs from the Mississippi Valley Conference, are 1-2 in the Class 4A rankings this week. Dubuque Wahlert, another MVC club, is ranked No.2 in Class 3A.

Kennedy girls rout Fairfield, 71-31

Steph Botkin and Morgan Martin scored 18 points apiece and Kennedy trampled Fairfield, 71-31, Saturday night in a non-conference girls basketball game at Kennedy.

Kennedy (14-4) roared out to a 43-14 lead by halftime.

Bardsley paces No.9 Cougars by Hempstead

DUBUQUE - John Bardsley came off the disabled list Friday night and scored 18 points as No.9 Kennedy belted Dubuque Hempstead, 68-32, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game in Dubuque.

Bardsley had been sidelined with a broken hand.

A.J. Carter scored 15 points for Kennedy (12-3, 8-2) and Zach Daniels had 14.

   

Kennedy girls slip by Hempstead

Madi Meier and Paige Hendrickson scored 10 points apiece Friday night as Kennedy trimmed Dubuque Hempstead, 48-37, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Morgan Martin collected nine rebounds, eight points and six steals for the Cougars (13-4). Meier contributed three assists and three steals. Hendrickson had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Kennedy led, 30-26, after three quarters. The Cougars took command by outscoring Hempstead, 18-11. in the final stanza. Nobody for the Mustangs scored in double figures.

White rolls 459 in loss for Cougars

Alec White had the hot hand for Kennedy, rolling games of 215 and 244 for a 459 series in 3069-2859 loss to Waterloo East on Thursday in boys bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

White matched East's Kody Smith for high series. Smith shot a 255 high game.

Waterloo East girls roll past Cougars

Trisa Edler had the line for Waterloo East on Thursday, rolling games of 215 and 218 for a 433 series that carried the Trojans past Kennedy, 2634-2258, in girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Laura Fischer had high game of 173 and high series of 330 for the Cougars.
