Linn-Mar High School - Marion, Iowa

Lions sweep MVC dual meets

CEDAR FALLS - The Linn-Mar Lions swept a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference dual meets Thursday night despite not having both of their top-ranked wrestlers in the lineup.

Alijah Jeffery and Ross Lembeck did not compete for Linn-Mar, but the Lions still managed to trim Cedar Falls, 35-33, and dump Iowa City High, 57-12.

Jeffery and Lembeck could wrestle in the Linn-Mar Duals on Saturday, according to Coach Doug Streicher.

Dallas McFarland collected two pins at 285 pounds. Noah Ajram (113), Alexander Geers (145) and Shea Hartzler (160) also won both of their matches.

Sommer twins sizzle against Prairie

It may have been bitter cold outside the Prairie gymnasium Tuesday night, but it was Sommer time inside.

Twin sisters Kristie and Katie Sommer combined for 37 points to lead the Linn-Mar girls to an easy 57-36 romp over the short-handed Hawks.

Prairie was without influenza-bitten playmaker and point producer Madison Dellamuth, and it showed.

“We were completely out-of-sync on both ends of the floor,” said Hawks Coach Steve Doser. “We were looking for some leadership, but we didn't see what we wanted. We looked lost.”

The dynamic Sommer girls, meanwhile, seemed right at home.

Uhlir, Bohannon shoot Lions by Hawks

You don't want to challenge Nic Uhlir and Jordan Bohannon to a 3-point shooting contest, because you're probably going to lose.

The two Linn-Mar sharpshooters combined for seven 3-pointers and 32 points Tuesday night as the Lions took care of Prairie, 61-41, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Linn-Mar.

Uhlir, one of the top 3-point shooters in Class 4A at better than 50 percent, hit consecutive triples in the third quarter as Linn-Mar opened a 20-point lead. He finished with four 3-pointers and 15 points.

Bohannon nailed three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points.
