Marion matmen flattened twice

Marion got flattened twice Thursday night in wrestling at the Marion gym.

Pleasant Valley rolled over the Indians, 66-3. Kyle VanMeter was Marion's only winner, notching a 2-0 decision over Landon Carney at 285 pounds.

Marion also was beaten by Mount Pleasant, 64-12. Nick Kramer at 138 and Jacob Ottaway at 182 posted wins, and Kyle Grandon at 195 picked up a win by forfeit.

Knapp nets 26 as Marion girls dance to win

With their sixth win in the last seven games, the Marion girls are girding themselves for the stretch run.

“We’re playing good when we should,” said senior shooter Beth Knapp after torching Independence for 26 points in a runaway 54-35 victory at home Tuesday night.

Coming together when it counts under new coach Corby Laube, the Indians (12-6) remain in hot pursuit of the Wamac West title with a 9-3 conference mark.

Marion boys blitz Independence

INDEPENDENCE - Marion got 10 players into the scoring column, led by Ty Gunderson's 12 points, and whipped Independence, 60-38, Tuesday night in Wamac Conference boys basketball.

Quinn Cannoy and Trevor Hardman added nine points apiece for Marion (8-7, 7-4).

Ryan Cooksley's 15 points paced Independence (1-14, 1-11).

Indians finish 13th at Wamac mat tourney

Levi Lochner and Dakota Peterson earned fourth-place finishes for Marion in Saturday's Wamac Conference wrestling meet at Marion.

Marion finished 13th in the 16-team tournament. West Delaware ran away with the championship with 308 points. Independence was second with 202.

Lochner at 145 pounds and Peterson at 170 were the highest finishers for Marion. Nick Kramer finished sixth at 138, Mitch Ross was seventh at 285 and Kyle Grandon was eighth at 195.

Frazier fuels Marion win

Isaac Frazier scored 14 points and Brenden Landuyt added 13 to lead Marion past Clear Creek Amana, 61-40, Friday night in Wamac boys basketball at Marion.

Daly Quinn added 10 points for Marion (8-7, 6-4).

CCA (2-14, 1-10) made 10 3-pointers.
