Wahlert ousts Marion from 4A tourney

Marion won the first set, but No. 13 Wahlert came storming back to claim the next three and knocked the No. 10 Indians out of the Class 4A regional volleyball tournament Thursday night at Marion.

The loss ended Marion's season at (26-14).

Marion claimed the first set, 25-20. Wahlert bounced back to win the second, 25-18.

Marion football playoff tickets on sale

Marion High School is pre-selling tickets for Monday night's Class 3A football playoff game against DeWitt Central.

Tickets cost $6 and can be purchased at the high school on Thursday, Friday and Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone under the age of kindergarten will be admitted for free.

This is an IHSAA state sponosred event, so Marion and Wamac Conference passes will not be accepted.

Monday's game will start at 7 p.m. at Thomas Park.

And a big lineman, of all players, saved the day for Marion Wednesday night at home by recovering a late-game fumble to preserve a nail-biting, 29-27, Class 3A playoff win over Western Dubuque at Thomas Park.

Perkins hopes Indians are mentally ready

The Marion Indians say they are ready to face Western Dubuque in the Class 3A playoffs Wednesday night, but Coach Tony Perkins is not sure.

The Indians suffered a double-blow at DeWitt Central last Friday. They blew a 16-7 lead and lost, 17-16, dropping into a three-way tie for the district title. And they also lost two key players to injuries that night.

Perkins thinks the Indians have enough talent to survive the loss of Andrew Davis (broken leg) and Justin Dolley (torn MCL), but he's not sure they've had enough time to recover mentally and emotionally.
