No. 8 Indians drubbed by Cascade

CASCADE - The Cascade Cougars scored eight runs in the fourth inning Tuesday night and defeated No. 8 Marion, 12-1, in a non-conference baseball game in Cascade.

Trev Biery had a double, triple and RBI for Marion (21-10).

Cascade notched its eight-run inning with eight hits and four Marion errors.

No. 8 Indians sweep Wamac twinbill

INDEPENDENCE - The eighth-ranked Marion Indians got strong pitching Monday night and swept a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Independence, 4-2 and 11-1 in five innings.

Tyler Hedtke collected nine strikeouts and scattered five hits in a complete-game victory in the opener. Trev Biery and Josh Davilla had two hits for the Indians. Sean McGarvey hit a triple.

Levi Lochner allowed only two hits and struck out eight batters in the nightcap. Mitch Wagner led the Indians with three hits. Biery and Cale Cannoy had two hits for Marion (21-9, 12-5).

Mitch Wagner will play at NIACC

Marion High School infielder Mitch Wagner will play baseball at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City next season.

Wagner has been primarily a second baseman for the Indians this season, but he also plays shortstop and was the team's starting third baseman last year.

Wagner is hitting .406 this season (41 for 101) and has scored 39 runs in 28 games. He hit .384 last year when Marion finished 27-17 and reached the semifinals of the Class 3A state tournament for the first time in school history.

NIACC compiled a 37-21 record this season.

   

Marion trims Mustangs twice

The Marion Indians cut it thin Thursday night during their Wamac Conference doubleheader against Mount Vernon, but thin was good enough.

The Indians won a pair of squeakers, 4-3 and 5-3, at Marion.

In game one, Mitch Wagner and Addison Johnson led the Indians with three hits apiece and Josh Davila drove in the eventual winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Fiser lifts Marion by Mount Vernon

Amber Fiser more than made up for almost knocking the head off her coach with a line-drive foul ball Thursday night.

Fiser, an eighth-grade phenom for the Marion Indians, was the winning pitcher in four innings of near-spotless relief against the visiting Mount Vernon Mustangs and also got the biggest hit of the game.

She tagged the game-winning hit in the eighth inning for a 4-3 victory with a towering blow that kissed high off the left-centerfield fence.
