Galloro helps Prairie top Washington

Matt Galloro rolled a 236 game and a 418 series to lead the Prairie boys bowling team in a 2,870 to 2,581 win over Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Walker Hunt was close behind with a 414 series for the Prairie Hawks.

Hunter Bachmeier rolled a 228 game and a 432 series for the Warriors.

Prairie girls nipped by City High

IOWA CITY - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team pushed third-ranked Iowa City High to the limit Friday night before dropping a 59-57 verdict to the Little Hawks in Iowa City.

Olivia Usher hit three 3-pointers and scored 21 points for Prairie (9-9, 4-7). Lynsey Altenhofen popped in four 3-pointers and added 16 points. Sarah Schmitt had 12 points.

Ashley Joens poured in 24 points for Iowa City High (14-2, 9-1).

PRAIRIE (57): Schmitt 5 2-2 12, Moenk 0 2-2 2, Altenhofen 6 0-0 16, Usher 7 4-6 21, Wagemester 0 0-0 0, Kuch 0 0-0 0, Person 1 2-2 4, Stoffer 1 0-0 2. Totals 20 10-12 57.

Prairie boys nipped by City High

Jalen Rima scored 25 points, but Iowa City High edged the Prairie boys basketball team 66-65 in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Thursday at Prairie.

The Prairie Hawks (6-9, 4-6) fell behind 14-5 after the first quarter, but fought back and took a 49-46 lead entering the fourth quarter. City High came back down the stretch, however.

Jake Eilers scored 15 points with five of Prairie’s 12 3-point goals.

Five players scored in double digits for the Little Hawks (10-5, 7-3). Micah Martin led the way with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

IOWA CITY HIGH (66): Smith 5 0-1 10, Mulligan 2 4-6 10, Jones 4 5-6 13, Ringen 3 0-0 9, Dillon 0 0-0 0, Johnson 5 0-0 10, Martin 6 2-2 14. Totals 25 11-15 66.

Prairie boys trimmed at Hempstead

DUBUQUE – The Prairie boys basketball team let a seven-point halftime lead slip away and lost to Dubuque Hempstead, 53-47, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Tuesday at Hempstead.

The Mustangs (7-7) took a 31-27 lead by the end of the third quarter and held on down the stretch.

Jalen Rima scored 13 points for the Prairie Hawks (6-8). Cal Clark had 11 points and Max Smith-Drahos added 10.

Prairie girls stopped by Hempstead

The Prairie girls basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night with a 60-50 loss to Dubuque Hempstead in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Olivia Usher scored 25 points for the Prairie Hawks (9-8).

Megan Groneau had 20 points for the Mustangs (5-11), who pulled away with a 17-6 run in the third quarter.

DUBUQUE HEMPSTEAD (60): Bitter 1 1-2 3, Kluesner 2 3-4 9, Snitker 0 2-2 2, Fleckenstein 1 7-14 10, O’Hare 1 1-2 3, Krug 3 7-8 13, Doyle 0 0-0 0, Groneau 10 0-3 20. Totals 18 21-35 60.
