Pritts ranked No.1 in cross country

Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Mitch Pritts has taken over the No.1 spot in the Class 4A state cross country rankings, compiled by the Iowa Track Coaches Association.

Pritts won the Cedar Rapids Invitational last Thursday and jumped from No.3 to No.1 in the rankings. His performance helped Prairie climb from No.11 to No.1 in the team rankings.

The Prairie Hawks have four runners in the Top 25 with Pritts at No.1, Isaiah Vlasek No.5, Jake Moore No.10 and Tyson Van Draska No.21.

Prairie jumps to No.1 in rankings

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys cross country team jumped into the No.1 spot in the Class 4A rankings Wednesday by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.

Prairie won the Cedar Rapids Invitational last Thursday and climbed all the way from No.11 to the top spot among the biggest schools in the state.

Linn-Mar, which had been No.1, fell to No.3 in the rankings, but the Lions have been running without state track champion Josh Evans, who is expected to return this Saturday at the Heartland Classic in Ames.

Madison Dellamuth commits to Bradley

Madison Dellamuth, an all-state point guard at Cedar Rapids Prairie, announced Wednesday morning that she has committed to play college basketball at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Dellamuth, a 5-foot-6 senior, averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals last season when Prairie finished with a 15-7 record. She hit 43.1 percent of her 3-pointers (25 of 58) and shot 67.1 percent at the foul line.

Dellamuth was named third team all-state by the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Bradley finished 14-16 overall last season and went 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

   

Prairie whips Wahlert in volleyball

Prairie crushed Dubuque Wahlert in three sets Tuesday in MVC volleyball at Prairie.

The Hawks won by scores of 25-19, 25-7, 25-20.

Meghan Busswitz led Prairie with 10 kills. Megan Sprengeler had eight.

Halle Lueck distributed 28 assists. Busswitz hit a sizzling .533.

Prairie also had 11 service aces behind a 90 percent serving night.

 

Clark, Junge lead Valley golfers

CEDAR FALLS - Cal Clark of Cedar Rapids Prairie fired a 74 Monday to claim medalist honors at the MVC Valley Division meet at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls.

Matt Junge of Xavier shot a 76 and holds a four-stroke lead after 36 holes in the division tournament at 137. Trevor McCann of Linn-Mar and Charlie Smith of Wahlert are tied for second at 141. Clark, Max Thrune of Linn-Mar and Ben Schmidt of Wahlert are another shot back at 142.

Junge fired a 61 at the MVC Super Meet at Airport National Aug. 15. The final round of the Valley Division tournament will be held at Gardner Golf Course Sept. 30.
