Hanson hot in Hawks' loss

Sawyer Hanson had the line for Prairie, rolling games of 218 and 221 for a 439 series, but the Hawks were beaten by Waterloo West, 3047-2782, Friday in Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Michael Greve fired a high game of 278 and high series of 492 to lead Waterloo West. Cameron Walker fired a 268 for the Wahawks.

Nick Blood shot a 222 game for Prairie.

Wahawks rally past Prairie girls bowlers

Waterloo West overcame a 20-pin deficit and beat Prairie, 2772-2694, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling match at Lancer Lanes.

Katlynn Palmer shot games of 204 and 223 for a 427 series that led Prairie. Rylee Blood was close behind, firing games of 201 and 217 for a 418 series.

Waterloo West's Makenzie Ruddy shot high series with a 441. She recorded games of 216 and 225. Alexus Wilson had a 401 series.

Prairie boys hustle past Lions

It’s as true in sports as it is in combat, that when the going gets tough the tough get going.

The Linn-Mar and Prairie boys were locked in a knock-down-drag-out battle for three quarters Friday night on the Hawks home court.

And with the win on the line, Prairie turned up the heat and the Lions melted.

“It’s very disappointing,” said Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson after the 46-33 defeat.  “They were clearly the tougher team. They were much more aggressive.

Prairie bounces past Linn-Mar girls

Madison Dellamuth scored 21 points and the Prairie girls rolled over Linn-Mar, 53-34, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game at Linn-Mar.

Prairie (7-3, 5-2) was looking to bounce back from a 46-23 loss at Dubuque Hempstead last Friday night that dropped the Hawks out of the Class 5A rankings.

“We’ve got to play better defense, play with more urgency on defense, and we have to forget about the poor performance at Hempstead,” Prairie Coach Steve Doser said before the game.

Mission accomplished.

Prairie, Linn-Mar rank 2-3 in wrestling

Cedar Rapids Prairie is ranked No.2 and Linn-Mar is No.3 in the initial Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association Class 3A dual team rankings for the 2012-13 season.

Southeast Polk is ranked No.1 in Class 3A.

West Delaware is ranked No.1 in Class 2A, thanks in large part to its 4-0 record against Prairie and Linn-Mar in dual meet tournaments this season.

Prairie has a 13-2 record, with both of its losses to West Delaware. Linn-Mar has a 9-6 record, with two losses to West Delaware and two losses to Prairie.
