Warriors back in girls hoop rankings

Cedar Rapids Washington crept back into the girls basketball rankings released Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Warriors (10-3) are ranked No.10 in Class 5A. Kennedy (11-2) maintained its spot at No.7 in the rankings.

Xavier (7-7) fell to No.11 in the Class 4A rankings.

Iowa City High (15-0) is No.1 in Class 5A. Harlan (13-0) holds down the top spot in Class 4A.

Cline rolls 527 series for Warriors

Bryan Cline rolled a big 527 series for the Washington Warriors Tuesday in a 3226-2906 loss to Waterloo East in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Lancer Lanes.

Cline bowled games of 280 and 247. He had the high game with his 280 and the high series with his 527.

Kyle Kaness had a solid day for Washington with a two-game series of 224-245=469.

Washington girls bowled over by Waterloo East

Waterloo East outscored Washington by 96 pins in the Baker round and beat the Warriors, 2688-2573, Tuesday in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Washington's Kelly Waters had high game with a 215. Keely Pernicka rolled a 911 and led the Warriors with a 384 series.

Warriors rounding into form for stretch run

It's that time of year when the Washington Warriors swimmers start to get serious.

The Mississippi Valley Conference meet is next week in Cedar Falls with the all-important district and state meets coming up on Feb. 8 and 15.

And even with somewhat of a make-shift lineup, the Warriors tuned up for what's ahead by turning in a fine showing Saturday in their own seven-team Jim Voss Invitational.

In a high-powered field with four teams ranked among the top 10 in the state, Washington came in a strong second behind higher-rated Bettendorf, but better than the West Des Moines Valley swimmers that had beaten them in a dual meet a week ago.

Franklin fuels Warriors past Moline

Dani Franklin scored 22 points and Aleena Hobbs added 16 to power Washington past Moline, Ill., 64-50, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference girls basketball game at Washington.

Kandis O'Donnell pulled down eight rebounds for Washington. Franklin had six.

The Warriors (10-3) built a 20-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. The margin was still 10 points at halftime and the end of the third quarter.

Moline (17-8) had three scorers with 10 points apiece.
