Hartman wins twice in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - Washington lost a pair of girls tennis meets Saturday in Iowa City.

The Warriors were beaten by Iowa City High and Iowa City West by 7-2 scores.

Lilly Hartman and Rina Moore won in singles against City High.

Hartman won at singles and the doubles team of Caroline Berg and Bethany Freeman won in doubles against West.

Washington boys split with Iowa City teams

The Washington boys tennis team tossed a shutout then had one thrown right back at them Saturday at Washington.

The Warriors beat Iowa City High, 9-0, in the morning then were blanked by Iowa City West, 9-0, in the afternoon.

Mitch Blades beat Holden Feagler, 6-3, 6-4, at No.1 singles against City High.

Althoff helps No.2 Cougars clip No.5 Wash

Kennedy goalkeeper Nathan Althoff stared Washington All-American Austin Bergstrom squarely in the eye Tuesday night in the final round of their dramatic PK Shootout at Kingston Stadium.

He never blinked.

Althoff made a diving stop on Bergstrom's left-footed boot to give No.2 Kennedy a 3-2 victory over No.5 Washington under the lights.

No.6 Hawks nip No.3 Warriors in boys soccer

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team has never won a conference title, never made the state tournament and until this year had never been ranked in the Top 10.

The times could be changing.

The sixth-ranked Hawks trimmed No.3 Cedar Rapids Washington, 1-0, Thursday on a goal by sophomore Logan Rindernecht with 1 minute, 51 seconds left in the second half on a cold, damp, raw night at Prairie.

Cooper's corner kick lifts Warriors

Annee Cooper's goal off a corner kick 7:16 into overtime lifted Washington past Prairie, 1-0, Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

The Warriors are 2-0. Prairie is 2-1.
