Warriors stun top-ranked West boys in soccer

Washington played top-ranked Iowa City West to a scoreless tie in regulation, then outscored the Trojans 3-1 on penalty kicks for a stunning Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer win Thursday night at Kingston Stadium.

Washington is ranked No.10 in Class 3A.

 

No.12 Warriors kick Davenport Central

The 12th-ranked Cedar Rapids Washington boys soccer team spanked Davenport Central, 4-0, in its season opener at Kingston Stadium Monday night.

Jack Sundermann and Kimu Kasha scored two goals apiece for the Warriors.

Austin Bergstrom collected two assists and Evan Fisher had one assist.

 

Warriors cruise in girls tennis

The Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis team began the season Saturday with a pair of lopsided victories in the Quad Cities.

The Warriors blanked Bettendorf, 9-0, and defeated Davenport West, 8-1.

Kristin King, Lilly Hartman, Rina Moore, Jennifer Greif and Caroline Berg won both of their singles matches for new coach Liz Bertrand.

Wash girls win 2 events at Sherwood

IOWA CITY -- Shannon Gorman won the 1500-meter run for Cedar Rapids Washington at the Sherwood Relays in Iowa City on Saturday. The Warriors also captured the 4x800 relay.

The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls track team captured nine events. The J-Hawks dominated the relay events with victories in the shuttle hurdle relay, distance medley, 4x200, sprint medley, 4x100 and 4x400.

Rachel Broghammer won the 100-meter dash for Jefferson, Madison Ranschau took the 100 hurdles and Brianna Prohaska won the high jump.

Jones, Gorman place second for Warriors

MUSCATINE -- Jasmyne Jones placed second in the 100- and 200-meter dash for the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors at the Dick Washburn Invitational in Muscatine on Thursday. Shannon Gorman took second in the 3000 for the Warriors, who finished in seventh place in the team standings.

Rachel Griffin won the shot put title to help the Cedar Rapids Prairie Hawks finish in third place in the team standings. Griffin captured the shot put with a heave of 35 feet, 6 inches.

Leslie Harder finished second in the high jump and Alex Malloy placed second in the discus for Prairie. The Hawks also placed second in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Iowa City West trimmed Pleasant Valley for the title.
