LINN-MAR BOYS WIN 4A STATE TITLE -- Linn-Mar did not win a single event Saturday, but the Lions' depth powered them to the Class 4A state track title at Des Moines ... Josh Evans was second in the 1600 and third in the 800 ... Perrion Scott was second in the 200 and third in the 100 ... The Lions also were third in the 4x100 relay ..... Jefferson senior Timauntay Jones won the 800 meters ... Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks won the girls 1500 and was second in the 800 meters ... The Kennedy boys finished in fourth place and placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay ... The Jeff girls finished in fifth place. Trcka leads Saints past Waterloo West

WATERLOO - Tara Trcka had the line for Xavier on Friday, rolling games of 205 and 214 for a 419 series that led Xavier past Waterloo West, 2827-2805, in girls bowling at Maple Lanes.

Xavier held a 76-pin lead after the first round, but West came storming back in the Baker round. The Saints lead melted to five pins after West shot a 253 in the first round.

Xavier held off the Wahawks with scores of 222, 221, 191 and 193 in its final four Baker games.

Xavier boys bowlers fall short to Wahawks

WATERLOO - Xavier shot one of its best scores of the season, but it wasn't quite enough Friday against Waterloo West. The Wahawks beat the Saints, 3143-3064, in boys bowling at Maple Lanes.

Caleb Miller shot games of 226 and 234 for a 460 that led Xavier. Kyle Elliott shot 225 and 222 for a 447. Brett Young had a 432 series and Zach Klimesh a 226 game.

West led by only four pins after the first round, but posted a 77-pin win in the first Baker round game and pulled away for the win.

Xavier matmen whip East, fall to Prairie

WATERLOO - Xavier got three pins and flattened Waterloo East, 52-15, Thursday night in Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling.

The Saints (13-18, 5-8) also were beaten by Linn-Mar, 58-13.

Clint Lembeck (126), Michael Maher (195) and Andrew Khairallah (220) had pins against East. Jerry Duball (132) and Sean Ickes (170) had technical falls.

The Saints won three matches against Linn-Mar. Duball won by decision, Sean Ickes (170) had a major decison and Cole Turner (285) won by forfeit.

Xavier girls up to No.4 in Class 4A

Cedar Rapids Xavier jumped up three spots to No.4 in this week's Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 4A basketball rankings.

The Saints (11-7) toppled Waterloo West, 52-49, on the road Tuesday night and knocked the Wahawks, who were ranked 10th, out of the Class 5A poll.

Cedar Rapids Washington (14-4) slid one spot to No.9 in the Class 5A rankings after a one-point defeat at Waukee, which moved up two slots to No.7.

Saints steal victory from Waterloo West

WATERLOO - Kayla Armstrong scored 13 points and collected seven steals Tuesday night to help the Xavier Saints grab a 52-49 victory against Waterloo West in Waterloo.

The Saints (11-7, 8-3) trailed by one point late in the game when Armstrong stole the ball and fed Hayley Deutmeyer for a layup and 50-49 lead.

The Saints stole the ball again and McKenna Andersen scored to make it 52-49 to help the visitors come home with one of their best wins of the season.
