Xavier girls split tennis matches

The Xavier girls tennis team split a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference meets in Blackhawk County Saturday.

The Saints topped Cedar Falls, 6-3, but were trimmed by Waterloo West, 5-4.

Allison Jasper, Claire Bouchard and Emma Deignan won both of their singles matches for Xavier.

D'Mello helps Saints top Wahawks

Kyle D'Mello won a marathon tiebreaker at No.1 singles Saturday as the Xavier Saints defeated Waterloo West, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Xavier.

D'Mello won the tiebreaker against Jacob Meyer, 15-13, after they split the first two sets.

Ben Curley, Chris Schirm, Jack VonKampen and Grant Gibney also won their singles matches for the Saints.

Xavier wins Regina tournament

Xavier posted a pair of shutouts Saturday to capture the Regina Catholic Schools Tournament held at the Tuma Sports Complex.

The Saints downed Davenport Assumption, 3-0, in their first match, giving Coach Amir Hadzic his 100th win as Xavier’s coach. Mason Hoxie got the Saints on the board early in the second half and Chad Eichler added a pair of second-half goals. Steve Jones, Connor Ramlo and Josh Hoffman had assists.

Xavier had a similar match in the final with Dyersville Beckman. The game was scoreless at the half, but Hoffman, Ramlo and Luke Duball converted in the second half for the Saints.

   

Xavier girls stay No. 1 in soccer poll

The Xavier Saints held onto the No.1 spot in the Class 2A girls soccer rankings Friday.

The Saints, who have won eight state titles in a row, have been ranked No.1 all year.

The Linn-Mar Lions remained No.2 in the Class 3A poll. Kennedy climbed one notch to No.8 in the 3A rankings.

Xavier's Junge signs with UNI golf

Xavier High School senior Matt Junge has signed a letter-of-intent to play golf at the University of Northern Iowa next year.

Junge had an 18-hole average of 75.8 for the Saints last season and qualified for the state tournament.
