Huskies drop heartbreaker to Central City

CENTRAL CITY - Cedar Valley Christian had the rug pulled out from under it Thursday night by Central City's volleyball team.

The Huskies (5-6) won the first two sets in their match against the Wildcats, 25-19, 25-17.

Central City came storming back to win the final three sets, 25-22, 25-22, 15-8 and claim the match.

Jessie Walsh had six kills and six assists for the Huskies. Grace Etzel had six digs.

Huskies go 1-2 at Maquoketa Valley

DELHI - Cedar Valley Christian won one of three matches Tuesday in the Maquoketa Valley quadrangular volleyball tournament.

The Huskies beat MFL MarMac, 21-8, 21-19, then was beaten by Maquoketa Valley, 21-11, 20-22, 15-8, and Tipton, 21-7, 21-9.

Jessie Walsh had three kills and four assists in each of the matches against MFL MarMac and Maquoketa Valley. Shelby Hembera had four kills against Maquoketa Valley.

CVC spikers take 3rd at tourney

CLINTON - The Cedar Valley Christian volleyball team won two matches Saturday and finished third at the Prince of Peace tournament in Clinton.

The Huskies defeated Anamosa, 21-17, 16-21, 15-11, in the match for third place as Shelby Hembera collected eight kills and Jessie Walsh had nine assists.

Cedar Valley defeated Anamosa earlier in the tournament as well, 21-17, 21-17, with Walsh netting five kills.

Huskies open with pair of volleyball wins

GARWIN - Cedar Valley Christian posted a pair of volleyball wins Thursday night, beating GMG and Valley Lutheran.

The Huskies beat GMG, 25-22, 27-25, then dropped Valley Lutheran, 25-9, 25-17.

Shelby Hemera had six kills against GMG and five against Valley Lutheran.

CVC sticking with football, girls hoops

Cedar Valley Christian plans to keep moving forward with its football and girls basketball programs, according to CVC Principal Jeff Pospisil.

The Cedar Valley football team lost to HLV, 70-6, last Friday in a game that was stopped at halftime due to concern for the CVC players' health and well-being. The Huskies dressed only 12 players for the 8-man game and two of them were overcome by health issues in the extreme heat.

"Yes, we are going to proceed with our football season," said Pospisil. "The heat was the major factor Friday night. HLV is a very good team and we ran out of gas early.
