Huskies draw Alburnett in 1A district

Cedar Valley Christian will face Alburnett in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A district baseball tournament on Tuesday, July 10 at the North Linn High School field in Troy Mills.

The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Cedar Valley Christian joined the Iowa High School Athletic Association this year and had an 0-14 record heading into Tuesday's game against BGM. The Huskies had been outscored, 212-18, in the first 14 contests.

No umps: Cedar Valley games postponed

Cedar Valley Christian's baseball game against the Meskwaki Settlement School Tuesday in Tama was postponed because the Settlement School could not find umpires.

Last week, Cedar Valley had to cancel games against Bellevue Marquette and Prince of Peace because the Huskies did not have enough players due to illness, injuries and other absences.

Cedar Valley plans to play at BGM of Brooklyn on Thursday.

Struggling Cedar Valley cancels baseball games

The Cedar Valley Christian high school baseball team has canceled games for the second time this week due to a lack of players.

The Huskies canceled Friday's doubleheader against Prince of Peace in Clinton due to a manpower shortage. They also canceled this past Tuesday's meeting with Bellevue Marquette for the same reason.

This is Cedar Valley's first season of baseball as a member of the Iowa High Schol Athletic Association (IHSAA).

The Huskies have been outscored 65-5 in four games, with lopsided losses in all four contests. They lost to Springville, 20-4, and fell to East Buchanan, 25-1, along with dropping a pair of 10-0 games.

Cedar Valley plans to play a doubleheader at Montezuma Saturday afternoon with 10 players. The Huskies have been battling injuries and other absences.

Mid-Prairie sidelines Cedar Valley, 6-0

WELLMAN --Mid-Prairie scored five goals in the second half and roared past short-handed Cedar Valley Christian, 6-0, in a Class 1A first round substate boys soccer game.

Cedar Valley was missing seven players who were away on their senior class trip.

Mid-Prairie held a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Hawks' score came off an own goal by Cedar Valley.

Austin Earthum scored three straight goals in the second half, the final in the 64th minute. The Hawks tacked on goals in the 71st and 72nd minutes by John Little and Wyatt Cady, respectively.

Cedar Valley ended its first year in Iowa High School Athletic Association competition with an 8-6 record.

Short-handed Huskies hand Monti shootout loss

MONTICELLO -- Cedar Valley Christian shrugged off the absence of seven seniors away on their class trip to beat Monticello, 3-2, in shootout Friday in boys soccer.

Cedar Valley converted all five of its penalty kicks in the shootout and Huskies keeper Will Muhlbach stopped one Monticello shot for the win.

The wind played a huge factor in the game.

Monticello had the wind in the first half and got off 13 shots, 10 on goal. The Panthers took six shots in the second half. Cedar Valley took only three shots against the wind in the first half and 13 with the wind in the second half.
