Kirkwood claims ICCAC softball title

CRESTON - The powerful Kirkwood softball team swept a doubleheader from Southwestern Sunday and clinched the ICCAC title.

The third-ranked Eagles, riding a 39-game winning streak, won 8-0 in five innings and 9-2.

Haylee Krack hit a home and drove in two runs in the first game. Kadarenna Sales had three RBIs and Leah Duffe went 2-for-2.

Amber Logemann (20-3, 0.44 ERA) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in five innings in the opener. She has collected 265 strikeouts in 128.1 innings this season to rank among the national leaders.

Eagles launch 11 homers in weekend

IOWA FALLS - The Kirkwood baseball team socked 11 home runs during a four-game series at Ellsworth Community College this weekend and came home with three victories.

The Eagles swept Ellsworth on Sunday, 13-6 and 13-0 in five innings. The teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

Kirkwood raised its records to 26-13 overall and 10-10 in the ICCAC.

Dairo Gonzalez went 8-for-15 in the four-game series with four home runs and 11 RBIs. He went 17-for-30 for the entire week with six homers and 18 RBIs.

Eagles clinch tie for softball title

FORT DODGE - The Kirkwood softball team swept a doubleheader from Iowa Central Saturday, 15-0 and 6-0, to run its winning streak to 37 games and clinch at least a tie for the ICCAC title.

The third-ranked Eagles (44-3, 24-0) have a four-game lead over No.6 DMACC in the conference race with four games left in the regular season, including a twinbill at DMACC Tuesday.

Kirkwood can clinch the title Sunday when it visits Southwestern for a doubleheader.

No.3 Eagles win 35th game in row

MASON CITY - The third-ranked Kirkwood softball team swept a doubleheader from NIACC Friday, 4-3 and 12-0, in an ICCAC meeting to raise its winning streak to 35 games in a row.

Kirkwood (42-3, 22-0) has a four-game lead in the conference race over DMACC with six games left in the regular season.

NIACC fell to 10-13 overall and 5-10 in the league.

 

Kirkwood sweeps DMACC; win streak hits 33

The third-ranked Kirkwood Eagles swept a doubleheader from No.6 DMACC Thursday, 1-0 and 13-5, and went a long way toward clinching the ICCAC softball title.

Kirkwood has won 33 straight games.

The first game proved to be a pitcher's duel between Kirkwood’s Amber Logemann (17-3) and DMACC ace Mari Silliman.

Silliman struck out 17 hitters in 6.1 innings, but made a mistake to Lauren Smith who launched a home run over the center-field fence for the walkoff victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Eagles split twinbill with Muscatine

MUSCATINE - The Kirkwood Eagles traded a pair of one-run victories with Muscatine Wednesday in junior college baseball at Muscatine.

Kirkwood won the first game, 7-6, in eight innings. Muscatine captured the second game, 11-10.

The split left the Eagles with a 22-12 record, surpassing last year's victory total when they finished 21-33.

 

Eagles raise streak to 31 in row

MARSHALLTOWN - The third-ranked Kirkwood Eagles ran their winning streak to 31 straight games Wednesday when they swept a doubleheader from Marshalltown, 2-0 and 5-2.

Amber Logemann (16-3, 0.53 ERA) pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener. Kristen Winter went 2-for-3. Leah Duffe and Lauren Smith collected RBIs.

Sam Belz (14-0, 0.76 ERA) pitched the first six innings to get the victory in the nightcap. Logemann tossed the final inning and struck out three batters for the save.

No.3 Eagles riding 29-game streak

IOWA FALLS - The third-ranked Kirkwood softball team extended its winning streak to 29 games Tuesday by sweeping an ICCAC doubleheader at Ellsworth, 9-0 and 12-1.

Both games lasted only five innings.

Kayla Tatge belted her 21st home run and Amber Logemann (15-3) pitched a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the first game. Kristen Winter hit her ninth home run and drove in four runs. Shelby Crist had two hits and Krysta Tutsch drove in two runs.

Eagles snap 6-game skid with sweep

The Kirkwood Eagles snapped a six-game losing streak Tuesday by sweeping a doubleheader from Dakota Tech, 2-1 and 7-2, at the Kirkwood baseball field.

The Eagles (21-11) won the first game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Jean Carlos Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to drive in Alex Thompson.

Kirkwood tied the opener, 1-1, in the bottom of the seventh on a pinch-hit double by Dennis Colon.

Kirkwood jumps to No.3 in softball poll

The Kirkwood softball team jumped from No.6 to No.3 in the NJCAA Division II rankings last week.

The Eagles (34-3) are riding a 27-game winning streak.

Louisiana State University Eunice (42-4) is ranked No.1 and Phoenix College (35-13) is ranked No.2.

Kirkwood visits Marshalltown Wednesday and hosts No.7 DMACC Thursday in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. in a showdown for the ICCAC lead.
