Kirkwood baseball, softball games postponed

All  Kirkwood baseball and softball games this weekend have been postponed due to unseasonably cold weather and field conditions.

The baseball team had been scheduled for a doubleheader at home in Cedar Rapids on Saturday against Southeastern Community College and another doubleheader at SCC on Sunday.

The softball team had been scheduled to host doubleheaders against Iowa Lakes on Saturday and North Iowa Area Community College on Sunday.

No.6 KCC softball team sweeps Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. - The sixth-ranked Kirkwood softball team finished its spring trip Wednesday by sweeping a doubleheader from Ottawa (Kan.) University.

Kristen Winter went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs as the Eagles won the first game, 15-1, in five innings.

Kayla Tatge went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs as Kirkwood took the second game, 9-0, in six innings.

Winter nets 8 RBIs as Eagles sweep

FAYETTE, Mo. - Kristen Winter collected eight RBIs Tuesday as the sixth-ranked Kirkwood softball team swept a doubleheader from the Central Methodist junior varsity.

Winter had a double, home run and five RBIs as the Eagles won the opener, 15-0, in five innings. She collected three more RBIs as Kirkwood took the nightcap, 10-2, in five innings.

Kirkwood raised its record to 10-3 with the sweep.

Eagles end spring trip with 4-3 victory

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Kirkwood baseball team ended its successful trip to Florida Tuesday with a 4-3 victory over Westchester (N.Y.) Community College.

The Eagles compiled a 6-2 record in Florida and raised their overall mark to 10-2.

Dairo Gonzalez snapped a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning against Westchester with an RBI grounder that scored Eric Schenck-Joblinske from third base with one out.

Krack hits two more homers for Kirkwood

FAYETTE, Mo. - Haylee Krack belted two home runs and drove in five runs Monday as the Kirkwood softball team defeated the Central Methodist junior varsity, 15-7, in Fayette, Mo.

The Central Methodist JV squad won the first game, 4-3.

Krack hit five homers for Kirkwood on Saturday in two games.

Kristen Winter had three hits and drove in two runs for Kirkwood in the 15-7 victory. Leah Duffe scored three runs in the ballgame.

The Eagles raised their record to 8-3 with the split.

   

KCC baseball team wins twice in Florida

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Kirkwood baseball team's magic in one-run games continued Sunday in Florida.

The Eagles nipped 12th-ranked UConn-Avery Point, 2-1, and trimmed Riverland (Minn.), 3-2, on their spring trip.

Kirkwood (9-1) has won four straight one-run games this season and five overall.

Collin Belk (3-0) pitched a complete game for the Eagles in the 2-1 victory over UConn-Avery Point. He allowed only five hits, struck out five batters and did not walk anyone.

Kirkwood softball washed out

CARTHAGE, Mo. - Kirkwood's softball games Sunday in the Crowder Community College Classic were cancelled because of rain.

The Eagles, who won three games in the event Saturday, were scheduled to play Butler College and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. The games will not be made up.

Kirkwood's games Monday against Northern Arkansas also have been cancelled because of bad weather.

The Eagles are next scheduled to play Tuesday at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.

   

Semler, Heffernan make top all-region team

Kirkwood Community College sophomores Kasey Semler and Gage Heffernan have been named first team All-Region in Division II junior college basketball.

Taylor Olson of Kirkwood was named second team All-Region. Devan Douglas and J.C. Fuller from Kirkwood were named third team All-Region.

Olson also was named to the Region XI all-tournament team.

Jacobs, Dufelmeier, Rohrbach named All-Region

Kianna Jacobs, Bianca Dufelmeier and Whitney Rohrbach from Kirkwood Community College have been named first team All-Region in Division II junior college basketball.

Alexis Fitzpatrick and Friday Chuol from Kirkwood were named second team All-Region. Whitney Henderson of Kirkwood was named third team All-Region.

KCC baseball team raises mark to 7-1

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The Kirkwood Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Massasoit (Mass.) Community College on Saturday in Florida.

The Eagles won the first game, 7-6, in eight innings and took the nightcap, 2-1, behind a strong pitching performance by Jean Carlos Rosario.

Kirkwood raised its record to 7-1 under first-year coach Todd Rima.

Jean Carlos Rodriguez led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single in a 6-6 game. Dennis Colon put down a sacrifice bunt, and Rodriguez scored all the way from first base with the winning run when the Massasoit catcher threw the ball into right field.

Wilfredo Feliz and Greg Brodzinski went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Kirkwood in the opener. Colon also drove in two runs.
