Eagles clinch home date with forfeit

The Kirkwood men's basketball team clinched a first-round home game in next week's conference tournament without even bouncing a ball Wednesday.

The Eagles (17-12, 8-5) received a forfeit from Southwestern Community College (14-14, 6-7).

The game was to be the nightcap of a women/men doubleheader between the schools. The women's game will be played as scheduled at 5:30 p.m.

The "win" clinched a first-round conference tournament home date for the Eagles next Tuesday against an opponent to be determined. Kirkwood is in third place in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, and still has a shot at finishing second.

Kirkwood women grab 17th title in row

KEOKUK - The Kirkwood women's basketball team captured its 17th straight ICCAC title Saturday afternoon with a 59-45 victory over Southeastern Community College in Keokuk.

The second-ranked Eagles (25-3, 14-0) have reached the 25-win plateau for the 19th straight year.

Kianna Jacobs led Kirkwood with 14 points and seven rebounds. Whitney Rohrbach scored 11 points and Alexis Fitzpatrick collected seven assists.

Jacey Hartweg led Southeastern (15-12, 6-7) with 12 points.

Kirkwood women climb to No.2 in poll

The Kirkwood Community College women's basketball team climbed one notch to No.2 in the NJCAA Division II national rankings this week.

The Eagles (24-3) are riding a 16-game winning streak.

Johnson County Community College is ranked No.1 in this week's poll. Louisburg College fell from No.1 to No.9.

Kirkwood visits Southeastern Community College of Keokuk Saturday afternoon.

Kirkwood women clinch tie for ICCAC title

FORT DODGE -- Kianna Jacobs had another big game Saturday as the Kirkwood Community College women's basketball team trimmed Iowa Central, 72-69, to clinch a tie for the ICCAC title.

Jacobs collected 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the third-ranked Eagles raised their records to 24-3 overall and 13-0 in the conference.

Friday Chuol scored 16 points, Bianca Dufelmeier netted 11 and Alexis Fitzpatrick had 10 as Kirkwood won for the 16th straight time.

Jacobs hit two free throws with 17 seconds left to give Kirkwood a three-point lead. Iowa Central missed two shots in the final seconds, including a 3-pointer that would have tied the game.

Semler, Heffernan spark Kirkwood men

FORT DODGE -- Kasey Semler popped in four 3-pointers and scored 16 points Saturday as Kirkwood Community College topped Iowa Central, 69-63, in an ICCAC men's basketball game in Fort Dodge.

Gage Heffernan hit two triples and netted 15 points for the Eagles (16-11, 7-4).

Jesse Jones paced Iowa Central (15-12, 5-6) with 15 points.

Semler nets 20 as Eagles top Clinton

CLINTON - Kasey Semler popped in six 3-pointers and scored 20 points Wednesday night as the Kirkwood Eagles defeated Clinton Community College, 68-60, in an ICCAC conference game in Clinton.

Kevin Hunter contributed 15 points for Kirkwood (15-11, 6-4). Shaun Manego hit four 3-pointers and netted 13 points for the Eagles.

Kirkwood trailed Clinton (6-17, 1-10) at halftime, 33-29.

Kirkwood drubs DuPage in twinbill

MINNEAPOLIS - The Kirkwood Community College baseball team opened the Todd Rima era with a bang Monday night.

The Eagles swept the College of DuPage, 9-0 and 10-1, in a doubleheader at the Metrodome in Minnesota.

Wilfredo Feliz, Jean Carlos Rodriguez and Dairo Gonzalez combined to hit 15 for 21 with nine RBIs and eight runs scored at the top of the batting order.

Rima excited about new club at Kirkwood

Todd Rima compiled an excellent record during his 11 years as the baseball coach at NIACC, with 358 victories and three finishes in the top-15 in the national polls.

Now he hopes to build on that success as the new coach at Kirkwood Community College.

The Eagles open the 2013 season Monday with a doubleheader against the College of DuPage (Ill.) in the Metrodome in Minneapolis at 7:30 p.m.

No.3 Kirkwood women drub Marshalltown

Alexis Fitzpatrick collected 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists Saturday as No.3 Kirkwood demolished Marshalltown, 87-38, in a women's junior college basketball game at Johnson Hall.

Whitney Rohrbach led the Eagles (23-3, 12-0) in scoring with 16 points. Bianca Dufelmeier and Kianna Jacobs added 14 points apiece as Kirkwood won its 15th straight game.

Mady Van Metre topped Marshalltown (8-15, 3-8) with 17 points.

Manego, Hunter help Kirkwood nip Dakota

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Shaun Manego came off the bench to score 14 points Saturday as Kirkwood trimmed Dakota Tech, 46-44, in a junior college men's basketball game.

Kevin Hunter contributed 12 points for the Eagles (14-11).

Chris McMorris led Dakota Tech (15-10) with 15 points.
