Pair of shutouts for Coe softball

KISSIMMEE, Fla - The Coe softball team got a pair of strong pitching performances Wednesday and swept a pair of games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Florida.

In the opener, senior Arran Weeces tossed a 3-hitter and Mallory McArtor had a key two-run single in the fourth inning as Coe downed Baldwin-Wallace, 4-0.

Game 2 was all Kohawks as Mariah Fritz tossed a one-hitter and contributed two of Coe's 16 hits in a 16-0, five-inning rout of Mitchell.

McArtor and Madi Miller had doubles for Coe against Baldwin-Wallace. Weeces struck out 10 and walked three.

Against Mitchell, five different Kohawks had two hits. Fritz and Sara Czachowski each had doubles. Fritz drove home three runs. In the circle, Fritz struck out four and walked one.

Coe (8-2) continues its Florida trip Thursday with games against Bridgewater College and Husson College.

Coe women split tennis matches

The Coe women’s tennis team split a pair of duals Monday, beating Ohio Wesleyan 6-3 in the morning in Sanford, Fla., and losing to Haverford 7-2 in the afternoon in Winter Park, Fla.

Amy Sebastian earned two wins at No. 2 singles for the Kohawks, beating Lauren Corcoran of Ohio Wesleyan 7-6, 2-6, 10-1, and beating Robyn Himelstein of Haverford 6-3, 6-3.

Coe is 10-5. Ohio Wesleyan fell to 2-1 and Haverford improved to 2-0.

Coe netters top Ohio Wesleyan

SANFORD, Fla. – The 36th-ranked Coe men’s tennis team topped Ohio Wesleyan, 7-2, in a dual meet Tuesday at Sylvan Lake Park in Florida.

Brady Anderson, ranked 15th, beat Shouta Fukamachi, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles match to lead the Kohawks. He teammed up with Nate Ackert to win the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4, over Jack Hibbard and Alex Lutz.

Ryan Hickman, Alex Bernt, Josh Pudlo and Zack Decker also won singles matches for Coe, which improved to 12-2.

Ohio Wesleyan fell to 3-4.

O'Brien honored by Iowa Conference

Coe infielder Allie O'Brien has been named the Iowa Conference Player of the Week in softball.

O'Brien, a freshman from Dallas Center Grimes, hit .667 for the Kohawks last week by going 10-for-15. She went 4-for-4 against Thomas More and had two hits when the Kohawks defeated No. 16 Kean, 7-2.

O'Brien has hit safely in all six of her collegiate games.

 

Konrardy leads Coe to third win

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Senior shortstop Craig Konrardy had three hits and Zach Kammin pitched six strong innings, leading the Coe baseball team to a 4-1 win Tuesday morning over Oglethorpe.

Nolan Arp added a pair of hits for the Kohawks (3-1). Andrew Brierton and Dan Urban each had RBI singles in Coe's two-run sixth inning that saw the Kohawks break a 1-1 tie.

Kammin allowed two hits and one run, striking out four and walking four. Tyler Smith pitched three solid innings of relief to pick up the save.
