Coe swimmers win 3 titles at Luther

DECORAH - Sam Fitzgerald, Ayaka Okamoto and Corbin Faidley of Coe won titles at the Luther Invitational swimming meet Saturday.

Fitzgerald took the women's 50 breaststroke (31.78), Okamoto claimed the women's 50 fly (26.9) and Faidley won the men's 500 free (4:55.59).

Okamoto finished second in the 200 free and 100 free. Fitzgerald placed third in the 100 IM and the Coe women took third in the 200 medley relay.

The Coe men collected second-place showings from Tucker Dangremond in the 50 breaststroke and Justin Sauter in 3 meter diving. Collin Flynn finished third in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke.

No team scores were kept.

 

No. 14 Coe grapplers pin Augustana

The 14th-ranked Coe wrestling team clobbered Augustana, 32-6, Friday at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks won eight of 10 matches and improved to 8-3.

Top-ranked Farai Sewera and Ryan Harrington each won big decisions for Coe. Sewera had a 17-4 major decision over Trace Timmons at 165 pounds, and Harrington had a 19-0 technical fall in 3 minutes, 36 seconds over Nick Torres at 174.

Creighton Fox had a pin at 285 for Coe and Trey Schuler had a technical fall at 141.

Augustana fell to 5-6.

Konrardy named D3baseball All-American

Coe shortstop Craig Konrardy has been named a second team preseason All-American by D3baseball.com.

Konrardy, a senior from Waterloo, set school records last season for runs scored, hits, doubles, total bases and assists and was named an ABCA All-American.

Coe won a school-record 34 games last season and came within one victory of reaching the NCAA Division III College World Series.

The Kohawks are scheduled to open the 2016 campaign in Florida on March 6.

   

Beavers outlast Coe men, 65-63

STORM LAKE - Marshall Shedeck's 3-point shot attempt with three seconds remaining missed the mark, allowing Buena Vista to edge Coe, 65-63, in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday night.

The Kohawks (5-9, 0-3) pulled within one on Matt Vonderhaar's 3-point basket with a little over a minute remaining, but the Beavers (7-7, 2-1) held on.

Shedeck led the Kohawks with 13 points, followed by Vonderhaar with 12. Kennedy Drey topped Buena Vista with 16 points.

Kohawk women earn first IIAC win

STORM LAKE - Coe built a 24-point lead in the third quarter and saw the margin shrink to six before holding to claim a 107-95 Iowa Conference win over Buena Vista on Wednesday night.

Mickey Hansche and Aleena Hobbs paced Coe (10-4, 1-2) with 26 points apiece. Hansche connected on six 3-point baskets. Jenna Lehman added 17 points, Allie Wirth 14 and Jordan Holmes 13. Hobbs had nine rebounds.

Buena Vista (7-7, 1-2) was led by Jasmyn Flynn-Graves with a game-high 27 points. Becca Pennington added 20.

COE (107): Hansche 9 2-2 26, Hobbs 10 5-5 26, Lehman 7 1-2 17, Holmes 1 10-12 13, McCrary 2 0-0 6, Wirth 3 8-10 14, Lehmann 0 2-2 2, Stulken 1 0-0 2, Boltz 0 1-2 1. Totals: 33 29-35 107.
