Mustang volleyball falls in 5 sets

DUBUQUE - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team pushed Clarke University to the limit Tuesday night before falling in five sets in a Heart of American Conference match in Dubuque.

Clarke prevailed 25-14 15-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-10 as the two teams traded sets all night.

Kayla Daggett led Mount Mercy with 38 assists. Maddie Bell had 11 kills, Olivia Coe nine, Alyssa Weldon eight, Olivia Makinen six and Becca Thomson six.

Lauren Stopko collected 26 digs and Weldon had 20. Bell blocked five shots.

3 more Mustangs join IWSL for 2019

Payton Bruner, Peyton Baskerville and Alexis Berry have joined the parade of Mount Mercy Mustangs who have joined the Iowa Women's Softball League for the 2019 campaign.

Eight players from Mount Mercy have now joined the IWSL for next season, including Morgan Braughton, Emily Oler, Sydney Robertson, Skylar Hop and Taylor Henderson.

A total of 48 players have registered as of Sept. 17. Kathryn Edmond of Cornell also enrolled in the past week.

The fall registration period runs through Dec. 31. Anyone who registers between now and then will receive a 25 percent discount and have a $75 registration fee instead of $100.

The fall registration period is for all players, whether they participated in the IWSL in 2018 or not.

Anyone who registers between Jan. 1 and April 30 will be charged the full $100, if space permits.

Eagles, Mustangs battle at Rathbun

MORAVIA - The Kirkwood Eagles and Mount Mercy Mustangs played 36 holes of golf in 90-degree heat Monday at The Preserve at Rathbun Lake with some good results for both teams.

Kirkwood is tied for second place in a talented field, albeit 27 shots behind the leader. And William Bruyeres of Mount Mercy is sitting in sixth place in the individual standings after shooting a pair of 69's.

The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday.

Indian Hills Community College enjoyed a fantastic day and stands at 31-under par after 36 holes. Kirkwood and William Penn are tied for second place at 4-under par.

Noble leads Mustangs to Clarke golf title

GALENA, Ill. - Casey Noble captured medalist honors Sunday to help the Mount Mercy women's golf team win the Clarke Fall InvitationalĀ  tournament at Eagle Ridge South.

Noble fired rounds of 80 and 81 for a 36-hole total of 161 to win the individual title by seven shots.

Mount Mercy finished with a two-day total of 687 for a healthy 20-shot margin over the University of Dubuque in the team standings.

Diallo sparks Mustangs to 2-2 draw

Souleymane Diallo scored a pair of goals Saturday to help the Mount Mercy men's soccer team battle to a 2-2 draw with Waldorf in double-overtime at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Waldorf grabbed a 1-0 lead, but Diallo responded with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute for a 1-1 tie at intermission.

Waldorf went ahead, 2-1, in the second half, but Diallo tallied again with an assist from Sava Dragic in the 79th minute.

Neither team scored in overtime and the match ended in a 2-2 tie after 110 minutes of soccer.
