No. 22 Mustangs take 8th in row

LINCOLN, Ill. - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team cruised to a 33-point point lead in the second half Monday night and settled for a 93-80 victory over Lincoln Christian in an NAIA game at Gaston Arena.

The 22nd-ranked Mustangs won their eighth game in a row and raised their record to 18-5.

CJ Parker scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Mount Mercy. Alex Houston contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. Mychael Brawner-Henley finished with a double-double for the Mustangs with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Michael Fisher made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points for Lincoln Christian (5-14).

Dolan helps Mustangs reach .500

Ashley Dolan scored 17 points Saturday as the Mount Mercy women's basketball team bopped Viterbo, 71-41, in an NAIA game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs won their fifth straight game and raised their record to 11-11.

Abby Herb and McKenna Sexton scored 13 points for Mount Mercy. Alisa Weiland contributed 11 points and Makenzie Zeitler snared 13 rebounds.

Bailey Klaas scored 12 points for Viterbo (2-17).

No. 22 Mustangs win 7th in row

Chris Ford led a balanced attack with 12 points Saturday as the 22nd-ranked Mount Mercy men's basketball team trimmed Viterbo, 79-74, in an NAIA game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Ford led five Mustangs into double figures. Alex Houston scored 11 points and Tre Wagner, Mychael Brawner-Henley and Ben Struss all scored 10 points apiece for the winners.

Ford broke a 69-69 tie with a 3-pointer with 68 seconds left to give Mount Mercy (17-5) a 72-69 lead. The Mustangs were clinging to a 75-74 lead when Struss went to work in the final seconds. His layup gave Mount Mercy a 77-74 edge with 22 seconds remaining, then Viterbo missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game with 14 seconds to go.

Struss hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to make it 79-74 and secure the victory as Mount Mercy won its seventh game in a row.

The Mustangs got a big lift from their subs with a 39-6 advantage in bench points.

Jake Bamke scored 25 points for Viterbo (7-13) and Ethan Haberman had 24. Viterbo trailed by 20 points at halftime, but the visitors staged a strong comeback in the second half.

No. 22 Mustangs bump off Ozarks

Five players scored in double digits as the 22nd-ranked Mount Mercy men’s basketball team downed College of the Ozarks, 95-77, Friday at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs (16-5) led 41-38 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half.

Chris Ford had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Mount Mercy, which made 32-of-34 free throws in the game.

Tre Wagner scored 18 points, including 14-of-15 free-throw shots, and dished out nine assists. Ben Struss scored 15 points, Alex Houston scored 11 and Mychael Brawner-Henley added 10.

Mustang women clip Ashford in OT

Makenzie Zeitler's 2 free throws with 17 seconds left in overtime proved to be the winning points as the Mount Mercy women's basketball team downed Ashford, 68-66, on Wednesday night at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Zeitler capped a perfect night at the stripe for the Mustangs. Mount Mercy (10-11) converted all 23 of its free throw attempts in winning for the fifth straight game.

Abby Herb led the Mustangs with 24 points. Zeitler ended up with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

Brittany Cross and Desiree Irizarry led Ashford with 18 points apiece.
