Lamaak sparks No.15 Mount Mercy

Kyle Lamaak collected a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds Saturday as 15th-ranked Mount Mercy crushed Graceland, 95-71, in the final round of the ActionCOACH Shootout at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Lamaak, a Kennedy grad, did all of his damage in 17 minutes off the bench. He also had three assists.

Blake Murdock, another Kennedy grad, made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points for the Mustangs. CJ Parker contributed 17 points and Sheawn Bedford had 12. Bedford also grabbed eight rebounds. Chris Ford had six assists.

Mount Mercy raised its record to 3-0. Graceland fell to 3-1.

No. 15 Mustangs trim Midland in OT

CJ Parker scored 22 points Friday night and Tre Wagner had 21 as the 15th-ranked Mount Mercy Mustangs edged Midland, 103-100, in overtime in the opening round of the ActionCOACH Shootout at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Wagner gave Mount Mercy an 86-84 lead with two free throws with six seconds left in regulation, but Jesse Jones scored with one second left to force overtime.

Parker hit a 3-pointer to break a 97-97 tie and give the Mustangs a 100-97 edge with 27 seconds left in overtime. Ben Struss made two free throws to make it 102-97 and Chris Ford hit one free throw to make it 103-97 with six seconds left.

James Kaiser nailed a 3-pointer for Midland with one second left to make it 103-100.

Mustangs spike Clarke in 4

Cori Peterzalek had 15 kills and 27 digs to lead Mount Mercy to a 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 28-26 volleyball victory over Clarke Wednesday night at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Leslie Hoffmann added 15 kills and Becca Thomson 10 for the Mustangs (29-11). Lauren Stopko and Allie McQuiston added 15 digs each and Thomson had 14.

Hannah Whitley had 23 set assists while Abbie Perez finished with 14.

Clarke (24-8) was led by Emily Wineinger with 13 kills. Kara Russell had 23 assists and 17 digs.

Mount Mercy men win in final second

DAVENPORT - Antwain Strong made a layup with one second left Tuesday night to give the Mount Mercy men's basketball team a 72-71 victory over Saint Ambrose in the season opener under new head coach Aaron Jennings.

Saint Ambrose took a 71-70 lead on a layup by Michael Knoll with 58 seconds remaining. The Mustangs missed a shot for the lead with 43 seconds left, but Knoll missed a shot for the Bees with nine seconds remaining and CJ Parker grabbed the rebound for Mount Mercy.

The Mustangs called a timeout to set up the final play and Strong delivered with an assist from Parker.

Mount Mercy spikes Iowa Wesleyan

The Mount Mercy volleyball team swept Iowa Wesleyan, 3-0, on Senior Night Monday at the Hennessey Recreation Center and improved its record to 28-11.

The Mustangs won 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.

Cori Peterzalek had 15 kills and 13 digs for Mount Mercy, Becca Thomson had 10 kills and 10 digs, Emma Pisark had seven kills and three blocks, Natalie Parizek had five kills, Hannah Whitley made 21 assists and Abbie Perez had 11 assists.

Mount Mercy finishes the regular season against Clarke at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at home.
