Furious Mustang rally falls short

HANNIBAL Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team fell behind 4-0, then scored three goals in the final 10 minutes, but couldn't net the tying score in a 4-3 loss Wednesday to Hannibal-LaGrange at Blackwell Field.

The hosts led 2-0 at half and scored their fourth goal in the 80th minute before March Fichtner, Kory Boebel and Felix Budde scored over the next eight minutes to cut the gap to the final margin.

Ben Franklin and Santiago Lostao had assists for the Mustangs (13-4). The victory moved Hannibal-LaGrange to 8-4-3.

 

Mount Mercy golfers finish 7th

SILVIS, Ill. – The Mount Mercy men’s golf team placed seventh out of 24 teams at the NAIA Men’s Fall Preview Friday at TPC at Deere Run.

The Mustangs shot 306 in the second round for a 618 total over the two-day tournament. Coastal Carolina finished first with 595.

George Long led Mount Mercy with a 9-over-par 151 to tie for 13th place.

Mustangs trimmed by Ashford

The Mount Mercy volleyball team suffered a close 3-2 loss to Ashford on Tuesday at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Ashford prevailed 28-26, 21-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Cori Peterzalek had 21 kills and 31 digs for the Mustangs, Becca Thompson had 17 kills, 11 digs and two aces, Leslie Hoffmann had nine kills and six blocks, Abbie Perez had 33 assists and 19 digs, and Lauren Stopko had 28 digs.

Mount Mercy fell to 24-11, while Ashford is 23-15.

   

Mount Mercy golfers 9th at NAIA meet

SILVIS, Ill. - The Mount Mercy men's golf team shot a 312 Monday and is in ninth place after the first round of the NAIA Men's Fall Preview at the TPC at Deere Run course in Silvis, Ill.

Coastal Carolina took the 18-hole lead with a 302, putting Mount Mercy 10 shots off the pace heading into the final round Tuesday.

George Long and Pedro Velasco of Mount Mercy shot 6-over-par 77's and are tied for 20th place. Clayton French of Marian University is leading the tournament at 1-under 70.

Mount Mercy women blanked by C-S

CANTON, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team managed only two shots on goal Monday and lost to Culver-Stockton, 3-0, on the road in Canton (Mo.).

Kira McGrotty scored twice for the winners. Brittney McMahon collected the other goal for Culver-Stockton.

Mount Mercy fell to 4-9-2 for the season. Culver-Stockton raised its record to 9-5-1.
