Mustangs, Long set school golf marks

OGLESBY, Ill. - George Long shot a two-round total of 9-under-par, including a school-record 7-under in the second round, as Mount Mercy finished Monday one shot out of the lead at the Deer Park Classic.

As a team, the Mustangs shot 275 in the second round of the two played Monday at Deer Park Country Club, which is also a school record. The Mustangs' two-round total of 560 left them one stroke behind Cardinal Stritch University. Indian Hills (566) is third.

Long's two round total of 133 is two shots better than the 135 shot by Kaleb Gorbahn of Holy Cross (Ind.).

The final round of the three-round event will be played Tuesday.

Monson takes 4th at Clarke golf

GALENA, Ill. - Meg Monson of Mount Mercy placed fourth at the Clarke Invitational golf tournament Sunday at the Eagle Ridge Resort South Course in Galena, Ill.

Monson had rounds of 83 and 85 in the tournament for a 36-hole score of 24-over-par 168.

Danielle Ducklow of Viterbo won the title at 15-over 159, leading her team to the championship. Mount Mercy tied Robert Morris for fourth place in the eight-team field.

Chargers rally to kick Mount Mercy

Mount Mercy held a 2-0 lead at halftime only to see visiting Briar Cliff score four unanswered goals in the second half for a 4-2 win on Sunday at Heco Field.

Megan Hall and Aminah Baloch scored for the Mustangs within the first 20 minutes of play to put the Mustangs up 2-0. Hall also assisted on Baloch's tally.

But Briar Cliff (3-3) got goals from four different players in the second half to secure the victory.

Mount Mercy is 3-6-1

   

Mustangs blank Briar Cliff, 2-0

Mohamed Hamed and Jamie Booth each scored a goal and Tomas Zajfert had a shutout in goal as Mount Mercy downed Briar Cliff, 2-0, in men's soccer Sunday at Heco Field.

Filip Kovacevic and Marco Fichtner had the assists for the Mustangs, who have won eight straight since starting the season 0-2.

Former Linn-Mar all-state goalie Jared Belin was in net for Briar Cliff. He made seven saves as the Chargers dropped to 3-3 on the season.

 

Mount Mercy spikes Peru St. 3-1

PERU, Neb. – The Mount Mercy volleyball team beat Peru State 3-1 Saturday to improve to 14-7.

Mount Mercy won 25-21, 14-25, 27-25, 26-24.

Cori Peterzalek had 16 kills for Mount Mercy, Leslie Hoffmann had 11 kills and three blocks, Abbie Perez had 32 assists, Hannah Whitley added 14 assists, and Lauren Stopko had 23 digs.

Peru State fell to 9-8.
