Mount Mercy 4th entering final round

GALENA, Ill. – The Mount Mercy women’s golf team took fourth place after the first round of the Clarke College Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Eagle Ridge South Course.

Viterbo led the field with 336 strokes, while Mount Mercy shot 287.

Meg Monson led Mount Mercy with 83 strokes to tie for third place on the leaderboard.

Team scores – 1. Viterbo 336, 2. Clarke 355, 3. Saint Norbert 379, 4. Mount Mercy 387, 5. Saint Ambrose 398, 6. Robert Morris 402, 7. Viterbo University 406, 8. Wisconsin Lutheran 420.

Individual leaders – 1. (tie) Danielle Ducklow (V) and Ellie Ament (C) 79.

MOUNT MERCY – Meg Monson 83, Chelsea Gryp 96, Paige Wenger 104, Emily Machula 104, Mackenzie Noble 105.

 

Hot Mustangs boot 7th foe in row

DES MOINES - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team blanked fourth-ranked Grand View, 1-0, in overtime Tuesday at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines for its seventh straight victory.

Marco Fichtner scored the clincher on a direct kick in the 96th minute.

Mount Mercy raised its record to 7-2. Grand View fell to 2-3-1.

 

 

Mount Mercy spiked by Ashford

CLINTON - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team was defeated by Ashford, 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, in a tight match Tuesday night at Kehl Arena in Clinton.

Cori Peterzalek led the Mustangs with 12 kills. Olivia Coe had nine kills, Hannah Whitley eight kills, Leslie Hoffmann eight kills and Megan Paustian seven kills.

Peterzalek finished with 22 assists and Abbie Perez had 20. Becca Thomson collected 21 digs. Hoffmann had four blocks.

The Mustangs fell to 12-5 for the season. Ashford raised its mark to 10-7.

   

Mount Mercy wins Cropper golf title

The Mount Mercy Mustangs won the Cropper Golf Classic by 10 shots Sunday at Hunters Ridge.

Will Bruyeres and George Long of Mount Mercy tied for second place in the individual standings with 36-hole scores of 3-over-par 147. Laxton Bennett of Viterbo claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 142.

Mount Mercy finished at 596. Viterbo edged Kirkwood, 606-607, for second place. Coe placed 11th out of 14 teams.

Jordan Even led Kirkwood at 5-over 149. Charlie Hartwig, competing for the Kirkwood "B" team, fired a 3-under 69 Sunday for the best score of the day.

Mount Mercy volleyball splits matches

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team split its two matches at a tournament in Omaha Saturday.

The Mustangs lost to Grace University, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12, and swept William Penn, 25-8, 25-14, 25-11.

The split left Mount Mercy with a 12-4 record.

Cori Peterzalek collected 26 kills against Grace. Abbie Perez had 34 assists and Peterzalek had 22. Lauren Stopko contributed 27 digs. Emma Pisarik had seven blocks.

Olivia Coe provided 12 kills against William Penn. Peterzalek had 14 assists and Perez had 13.
