Mount Mercy women fall to GV

Grand View jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half Saturday and defeatedĀ Mount Mercy, 3-1, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference women's soccer match at Lower Kingston Field.

Danielle Herdliska got the Mustangs on the board with a goal at the 80:23 mark of the contest. Mount Mercy fell to 7-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.

Kelsie Walter scored twice for Grand View (7-4-1, 1-0-1). Megan Randolph also scored for Grand View.


Unlucky Mustangs fall to Grand View

The Mount Mercy Mustangs accidentally knocked the ball into their own goalĀ Saturday and lost to seventh-ranked Grand View, 1-0, in a men's soccer match at the Lower Kingston Field.

The only score of the contest came at the 18:11 mark of the first half.

Mount Mercy fell to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Grand View raised its records to 9-1-1 and 2-0.

Grand View out-shot the Mustangs, 13-6.


No. 8 Viterbo spikes Mustangs

LACROSSE, Wis. - No. 8 Viterbo won its 20th match of the season Wednesday night, sweeping a Midwest Collegiate Conference volleyball match over Mount Mercy, 25-11, 25-13, 25-11.

The Mustangs 12-11, 1-1 in the MCC, were led by Ashley Strong with 9 digs and Demi Heiss with 6 digs. Cori Peterzalek had 5 kills and 4 digs. Abbie Perez added 12 assists.

Alicia Olson led Viterbo (20-3, 2-0) with 12 kills. Brianna Brinkman had 21 assists.

South garners Midwest league honor

Jack South of Mount Mercy University has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Golfer of the Week.

South, a senior from Birmingham, England, won the Mustang "36" Invitational at the Blue Top Ridge course in Riverside last week with a 36-hole score of 6-under-par 138, leading Mount Mercy to the team championship.

South began the new week by claiming medalist honors at the Ashford University meet Monday.


Mustangs, South capture Ashford golf titles

EAST MOLINE, Ill. - Jack South followed up an opening-round 69 with a 70 to take top honors, leading Mount Mercy a seven-shot win in the team competition at the Ashford Invitational on Monday at Short Hills Country Club.

The Mustangs shot a team total of 581, seven better than host Ashford, which finished at 588. Ashford's Sergio Garcia took second in the individual portion of the event, finishing five shots behind South.

Mount Mercy's Nathan Chilcott (146) finished fourth while teammates Jacob Selander and Matt Schlueter (148) tied for fifth.
