South leads Mustangs at Blue Top Ridge

RIVERSIDE - Jack South fired a 6-under-par 138 Tuesday as the Mount Mercy Mustangs captured the top prize at the Mustang '36' Invitational at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside.

South posted rounds of 70 and 68 for medalist honors. Blaine Buhr of Kirkwood placed second at 2-under 142.

Mount Mercy trimmed Kirkwood for the title, 588-593.

Mount Mercy soccer players honored

Marco Fichtner and Monueir Moodie of the Mount Mercy University men's soccer program have been named Athletes of the Week by the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

Fichtner, from Germany, collected two goals and two assists in a pair of victories and was named the Offensive Player of the Week in soccer. Fichtner has scored eight goals this season and is a repeat winner of the award.

Moodie, from Jamaica, helped the Mustangs surrender just one goal in their victories over Dordt and Judson and was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Mount Mercy sports an 8-1 record, the best start in school history.

 

 

 

Monson, Goodfellow lead Mustang women

GALENA, Ill. - Meg Monson and Madison Goodfellow tied for ninth Sunday to help the Mount Mercy women's golf team place third at the Clarke University Fall Invitational at the Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena (Ill.).

Monson and Goodfellow had identical two-day scores of 85-91=176. Kelsey Dircks finished 17th for the Mustangs at 183 and Chelsea Gryp was 30th at 198.

Natalie Booton was the medalist at 163 and led William Penn to the title.

Mount Mercy women split 2 matches

SIOUX CITY - The Mount Mercy University volleyball team split two matches at a tournament in Sioux City Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Grace (Neb.), 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, and lost to Benedictine (Kan.), 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-26, leaving their record at 7-10 for the season.

Mount Mercy hosts William Penn in the conference opener Wednesday.

 

Monson, Goodfellow 7th at Clarke golf

DUBUQUE - Meg Monson and Madison Goodfellow of Mount Mercy shot 85's Saturday and are tied for seventh place after the first round of the Clarke Fall Invitational at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

Maggie Yang and Natalie Booton of William Penn shared the opening-day lead with 80's.

William Penn leads the team standings. Mount Mercy is fourth out of nine teams.
