Siebenga wins Metro Spotlight Award

Kirsten Siebenga of Cedar Rapids Kennedy is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Siebenga, a senior, turned in a strong performance at the state swimming meet in Marshalltown on Saturday and helped the Cougars finish ninth in the team standings with 128 points.

Siebenga helped Kennedy score 50.5 of those points at the Marshalltown YMCA.

Jessica Heims wins Metro Spotlight Award

Jessica Heims of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.

Heims, a junior, represented the United States at the 2015 International Paralympic World Championships in Qatar last week. She finished fifth in the discus and also placed fifth in the 400 meter dash, posting personal records in both events.

Heims hurled the discus 82 feet, 9 inches and ran the 400 in 1 minute, 12.48 seconds.

Jared Eivins wins Metro Spotlight Award

Jared Eivins of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Eivins, a senior quarterback, had a big game Wednesday night when the J-Hawks defeated Dubuque Senior, 61-43, for their first victory in the playoffs since 1992.

Eivins carried the ball 12 times for 84 yards and four touchdowns. He also completed 6 of 10 passes for 172 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. All told, he collected 256 yards of total offense and five TDs.

Nunemaker wins Metro Spotlight Award

Tyler Nunemaker of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Nunemaker, a senior quarterback, has played extremely well the last two weeks to help Prairie make the Class 4A playoffs. The Hawks have scored 101 points in their last two games with a 56-41 victory over Muscatine and a 45-20 conquest of Ottumwa.

Nunemaker completed all five of his passes against Muscatine for 155 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns against the Muskies, giving him a rare double-double for a quarterback with more than 100 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a single game.

Caitlyn Smith wins Metro Spotlight Award

Caitlyn Smith of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Smith, a sophomore, is a key member of the Marion High School volleyball team. The Indians are ranked No. 4 in Class 4A with a 29-8 record heading into the postseason tournament.

Smith leads the powerful Wamac Conference in assists with 873 this year and is averaging 9.29 assists per set. She also has 129 digs, 45 kills, 38 blocks and 28 aces for the Indians.
