Lucas Huffman wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar freshman Lucas Huffman is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Huffman played a prominent role Friday for the Linn-Mar tennis team when the top-ranked Lions nipped second-ranked Iowa City West, 5-4, in a showdown of state powers in Iowa City.

Amara Taylor wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Washington sophomore Amara Taylor is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Taylor was a triple-winner at the Mississippi Valley Conference divisional meet in Iowa City Thursday. She won the 100 hurdles, captured the 400 hurdles and ran on the triumphant 4x100 relay in the Mississippi Division meet.

Madison Bach wins Metro Spotlight Award

Marion junior Madison Bach is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Bach, who is competing in two sports this spring, had a big week for the Indians past week as she switched from one sport to another on consecutive days.

On Thursday, Bach won the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000 meter run at the Marion Invitational at Thomas Park. And on Friday, she scored three goals for the Marion soccer team in a 5-2 victory at Williamsburg in a Wamac Conference match.

Jalen Rima wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Prairie junior Jalen Rima is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Rima is one of the top sprinters in Iowa for the Prairie track team. He leads the state in the 400 at 48.78 seconds and is tied for fourth in the 200 at 22.26.

Rima submitted both of those times Friday while winning the events at the Wilkinson Relays at Kingston Stadium.

Sydney Hayden wins Metro Spotlight Award

Sydney Hayden of Kennedy is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Hayden is the leading scorer for the Kennedy soccer team, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A with a 4-2 record. She has five goals and two assists in the six games.

The Cougars defeated Linn-Mar last week when the Lions were ranked No. 1 in the state.
