Blood wins Metro Spotlight Award

Rylee Blood of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Blood, a senior, leads all Metro bowlers this season with a 196.7 game average and 393.4 series. She's rolled a high game of 266 this season and a high series of 470.

Blood ranks seventh overall in the state this year. Last year, she helped the Hawks place third at the Class 3A state tournament.

Saulnier, Kelley share Metro Spotlight

Nick Saulnier and Cameron Kelley of Cedar Rapids Washington are the co-winners of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Saulnier and Kelley led the Warriors to their 53rd straight district swimming title Saturday with superlative performances at the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center.

Saulnier, a senior, captured the 200 individual medley (1:52.19) and the 100 backstroke (51.16) at the district meet. He also swam on two triumphant relay teams and has been seeded No. 1 in the 200 IM and 100 back for the state meet in Marshalltown this Saturday.

Dighton wins Metro Spotlight Award

Kennedy Dighton of Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Dighton, a 6-foot-1 junior, has been a key member of the Jefferson basketball team as it bids for a winning season this year.

Dighton leads the J-Hawks at 13.5 points and more than eight rebounds per game. She has raised her game this season after averaging 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds last year as a sophomore.

McKinney wins Metro Spotlight Award

Dennis McKinney of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

McKinney, a 6-foot-4 senior, has been one of the driving forces for the Jefferson basketball team during its surge the last few weeks. The J-Hawks have won three of their last four games, including an upset victory over sixth-ranked Linn-Mar Friday night, and have raised their record to 6-10.

McKinney scored 19 points and snared 17 rebounds in the victory against Linn-Mar, continuing his good work during the winning streak.

Rice wins Metro Spotlight Award

Chloe Rice of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award this week for high school girls, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Rice, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, is a key member of the Marion basketball team that is ranked No. 7 in Class 4A with an 11-4 record.

Rice, a lanky point guard, is averaging 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 steals for the Indians. She ranks third in the Wamac Conference West Division in scoring, third in steals and fifth in assists.
