Wash netters roll into substate finals

The Washington Warriors won all five of their singles matches in straight sets Saturday morning and defeated Jefferson, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Class 2A substate tennis tournament.

Washington will play in the substate finals May 24. The substate champion will advance to the state team tournament June 3 at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.

Jackson Hoyt clipped Jacob Donald at No.1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

 

Ian Schwieger, Parker Muller, Oliver Hammond and Ian McElree also won their singles matches for the Warriors.

 

The meet ended when Washington collected its fifth point, so the match at No.5 singles between Dane Van Antwerp of Washington and Jason Chung of Jefferson was not finished and the doubles matches were not played.

6. Ian McElree (W) def. Kellen Brown, 6-1, 6-1
