BELOIT, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored a season-high 16 runs on 16 hits as they smashed the Beloit Snappers, 16-5, Tuesday afternoon before 1,580 fans at Pohlman Field to take the series.
The teams were scoreless through the first four innings before the Kernels exploded for seven runs and eight hits in the fifth inning.
Fifteen of the Kernels' 16 hits were singles. The final hit of the game - an Ivory Thomas three-run home run in the eighth inning - was the only extra-base hit for Cedar Rapids.
Every Kernels position player reached base. Mitch Garver paced the offense with three hits and four runs batted in. Tanner Vavra also had three hits.
Ryan Walker reached base five times with two hits and three walks.
The Kernels (24-28) return home Wednesday night at 6:35 as they take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Aaron Slegers (4-2, 5.36) gets the start for the Kernels.
