Taylor Jacobson will miss the rest of the season with the Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls basketball team due to lingering problems with a sprained ankle.
Jacobson, a 5-foot-9 junior, averaged 10.2 points in parts of five games for the J-Hawks, but her scoring average was deflated due to limited minutes in some outings.
"She's done," Jefferson Coach Larry Niemeyer said Friday. "It's a real bummer for any kid like that. It's just a sad deal."
Jacobson was hurt in the season-opener against Bettendorf on Nov. 26. She scored 16 points that night before being helped off the court, then missed the next eight games.
She returned Jan. 3 and scored 19 points against Dubuque Senior, but was not fully healed. She skipped the next game, then played in pain in three more contests before visiting a doctor Friday morning to have her injury re-examined.
Niemeyer said the new X-rays did not reveal any new injuries, but he said the "high ankle sprain" is still a problem. "She has the swelling back and it has just not healed," he said.
