During this siege of rehabbing, I've had a chance to look down the road I have traveled and am sure that along the way I have had regrets and disappointments, plus all the highs and lows that go along with covering sports in Iowa for a long period of time.

It's timely to come to one of my regrets, which is very timely in the fact that I have never covered the Kentucky Derby. Always wanted to, never did.

I have had the behind-the-scenes tour of Churchill Downs, have seen the spires and the wood and the boiler and the track, but never experienced Derby week. And with that regret in mind, it's a good time to give you the winning horse for Saturday's Run for the Roses.

There is that Iowa angle, of course, with Dullahan, the horse that is owned by a group of 12 from Des Moines. This horse won the Bluegrass Stakes and was fourth in the Breeders Cup juvenile. So that gives Iowans a rooting point.

I do think, in talking to my friends who really follow this sort of thing, that this year's quality of horse flesh is quite a bit above what Churchill Downs has produced in recent years. There is a chance that in this field there could be a super horse.

If that is the case, put your $2 wager on Bodemeister, the Bob Baffert horse that will come out of post position No. 6 and will be ridden by a superior jockey in Mike Smith.

Another choice would be Gemologist. This horse is the son of two-time Breeders Cup winner Tiznow and has never been headed in the stretch.

So there you have three choices. If you take my advice, a small wager on any of the three would probably pay you a $1.50 profit for a $2 bet. But anyway, isn't it great fun to look at another Kentucky Derby in that light, with a little coin riding on the best horses in the field.

Another event that I always wanted to attend and cover and never did was the Indy 500. Never had a shot at the Olympics, but those are regrets for other times. And good racing to you!
