No.3 Kennedy spikers nipped by No.2 City High

IOWA CITY - The volleyball match between Iowa City High School and Cedar Rapids Kennedy lived up to its billing Saturday at the City High Tournament.

Iowa City High is ranked No.2 in the state in Class 4A and Kennedy is ranked No.3, and the match was as close as the rankings.

The Little Hawks nipped the Cougars, 18-25, 25-20, 16-14 in the de facto championship match.

"It could have gone either way," Kennedy Coach Michelle Goodall reported. "We're pretty evenly matched teams."

Kennedy and City High met in the final round of pool play. They didn't have an actual championship match, but they finished 1-2 in the overall competition.

Allie Hutcheson collected 15 assists and 14 kills for the Cougars against City High. Jordan Calef went 19-for-20 on serves and had five aces.

Madi Meier had 13 digs against the Little Hawks, Allie McQuiston had eight assists, Naomi Pfeil had eight digs and Alexus Rogers contributed seven kills.
