Linn-Mar - Boys Basketball

Lions whipped by Trojans, 81-56

IOWA CITY - Wyatt Lohaus led a trio of Iowa City West players with 15 points and the Trojans romped past Linn-Mar, 81-56, Friday night in MVC boys basketball.

David DiLeo and Chike Ukah also scored 15 points for second-ranked West (17-3, 13-2).

Jordan Bohannon scored 18 points to lead Linn-Mar (12-9, 10-6). Lane Halupnik added 12 points.

Linn-Mar turns back Hempstead, 64-55

Jordan Brandt topped a balanced attack with 11 points Tuesday night as Linn-Mar defeated Dubuque Hempstead, 64-55, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Linn-Mar.

Jordan Bohannon had a sub-par shooting night, but he still managed to contribute 12 rebounds, nine points and six assists for the Lions (12-8, 10-5).

Martell Wilson poured in 28 points for Hempstead (8-12, 5-10).

Uhlir leads Lions past Cougars, 73-65

Close games are nothing new for Linn-Mar.

The Lions have had their share of contests this season decided in the final minutes. Lately those swing games have gone against the Lions.

Junior guard Nic Uhlir would have none of that in Friday night’s showdown against Mississippi Valley Conference rival Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

The 6-foot sharpshooter was fouled as he nailed the last of his four 3-point baskets with just over a minute to play. He converted the foul shot to give the Lions a six-point lead and they went on to a hard-fought 73-65 road win over the Cougars.

Linn-Mar - Boys Basketball

Lions trimmed by Wahlert, 69-67

DUBUQUE - Dubuque Wahlert was two points better than Linn-Mar again Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles defeated the Lions, 69-67, in Dubuque for their second two-point victory over Linn-Mar this season.

Wahlert nudged the Lions, 57-55, in Marion Jan. 14.

Saints end 0-for-29 skid against Lions

It was long overdue when a bleachers-full of Xavier students started chanting “Just like football” in the waning moments of a 62-57 boys basketball win at Linn-Mar Friday night.

The Saints, no question, have owned the gridiron of late.

But when the basketball boys pulled out their victory on some clutch plays at the end, it marked the first time in school history (going back to 1998) that they've managed to turn the trick against the Lions.

“Zero and 29 before tonight,” Saints assistant coach Brad Stovie pointed out as fans mobbed the players. “Yeah, I'd say this was a pretty special night.”
